The Thucydides Trap is playing out first in the market around AI. The US is placing export controls on software usually reserved for strong encryption and weapons. China is drafting rules to keep its domestic models to themselves. They are also placing travel restrictions on their AI engineers and researchers to ensure none run off with trade secrets. The US see this as the primary mechanism they can use to slow the decline of the US empire. China see this as another industry they can copy/replicate/reproduce cheaper like they've done with every other industry. US and China are already using political levers and espionage to hamper the other side. The US are injecting fake traces in their models if they detect possible overseas usage of foreign nationals. China are doing what they do best, put out imitations that are almost as good but are making them economically more attractive. In a perfect world competition is better for the consumer, but in this instance its going to become more painful. We will see frontier models become over regulated to the point they are unusable. The un-restricted version will be available to massive US corporations and the defence industry. China will keep pushing opensource models until they surpass the US. At this point they will stop sharing their models and Open Source will suffer. Consumers will suffer. The US economy will deteriorate as companies conclude their ROI will never be achieved. Interesting times ahead.

We are back to using siege defence tactics. I am now expecting the invaders to build trebuchets.

Hello guys, I did some digging. Registration for the car that hit Australian MP Helen Haines: XCK 017. Car appears to be owned by Brendan Nugent, a radical leftist anti-Israel Houthi supporter. His handle is @NotLaoTzu

After weeks of diagnosing issues I have finally got TPU printing sucessfully on my @Elegoo_Official CC1. It should not be this hard. So far it was the biggest flaw with the CC1 after the CANVAS update.

Went to the shops this morning, I noticed a heap of people wearing masks again? Does anyone know why?

Like clockwork, yesterday there was a massive solar flare from the sun towards earth, followed up by a large earthquake a day later. I know correlation =/= causation but this is too obvious to be unrelated.

today I learnt:
I would just like to point out that Aboriginal people do not have throw back babies. We do not retain skin colour. Why? Well theres a simple explanation. In many Aboriginal genomes, the specific genetic variants responsible for deeper skin tones do not act as "dominant" traits when paired with European or Asian genes. There are no "recessive throwbacks" for this skin colour profile, meaning that once the pigment genes are diluted through intermarriage with fairer-complexioned person, a dark-skinned child will not randomly "pop up" down the line So this ignorant woman is wrong. White genetics are more dominant then a lot of other ethnic genetics.

Apparently I've been on this site for 13 years. This means I was still in the army when I made this account. I would have just started dating my girlfriends (now wife) and would have been blissfully unaware about how much the world was about to go to shit.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

My wife rolled her ankle pretty bad last night and she need to get an X-Ray. Called Dr because there were no appointments to see if we can just get the referral. Sorry nope Drs are only allowed to see a certain number of patients per day. Wait what? So Albo's "fix" for bulk billing is to limit how many people can actually get seen per day?? FANTASTIC WORK!

The Infosec community on here is so tiresome, you all get so mad and start trying to shame other for having a different view to you. Its always the same type of people doing to too, youre all weird. You can disagree without the name calling, and instead of calling to authority like "ive been doing this for years" explain why.

Why cant we have opt-in accounts that give us the flexibility to send money where we want but also de-risk the bank if we get scammed. Let the elderly and people who dont want to do anything with crypto stay on accounts that block it but if individuals want to increase risk and know what they are doing just let them? Sign a waiver or whatever with the bank so they can abstract responsibility away to the individual for certain transactions?
Fuck you Commbank I can send my money wherever the fuck I want
