The decision to delay the $IP unlock by six months reflects a deliberate and forward-looking approach to token economics. By slowing the pace of new supply entering circulation, Story is reinforcing alignment between long-term builders, contributors, and the broader community.
In an environment where short-term liquidity events often dominate narratives, this update prioritizes sustainability, economic discipline, and long-term network health. This is a meaningful step toward building a more resilient and mature ecosystem.
The two new governance proposals on Story Protocol SIP-00009 and SIP-00010 are a major upgrade to the network’s staking economy.
SIP-00009 Staking Rewards Adjustment
With SIP-00009, Story is recalibrating staking rewards to be more sustainable over the long term. This means fewer new IP tokens minted annually and a meaningful reduction in extra incentives for locked staking.
Key changes
• Annual emissions ~25M IP → 15.315M IP
• Staking multiplier 0.5x → 0.025x
• Block rewards 1.9290 IP → 1.1657 IP
Why this matters
• Keeps staking rewards healthy over the long term
• Reduces inflation pressure on IP
• Shifts incentives away from short term yield extraction
SIP-00010 Easier Staking Access
SIP-00010 focuses on lowering the barrier to participate in staking. Instead of needing 1024 IP to stake, users can now start with as little as 32 IP.
Key changes
• Minimum stake amount 1024 IP → 32 IP
• Auto reward distribution threshold 8 IP → 1 IP
• All staking fees 1 IP → 0.1 IP
Why this matters
• Makes staking more accessible
• Brings more small and mid size holders into participation
• Improves decentralization across the validator set
Bottom line
SIP-00009 focuses on protecting the long term IP economy, while SIP-00010 focuses on accommodating more users and expanding participation. Together, these proposals move Story staking away from mercenary incentives and toward a healthier and more sustainable network design.
