In 1937, 4,000 children arrived in Southampton from Bilbao, escaping the Civil War.
Those children made the UK their home.
One of them was Francisco Robles, Paco, who has just passed away at the age of 100.
Our thoughts are with Paco, his family and friends. Rest in power🕊️
With great sadness we share the news of the passing of Francisco "Paco" Robles at the age of 99.
One of the 4000 Basque Children evacuated to Britain in 1937, Paco was instrumental in bringing together the children that remained in Britain and sharing their story. RIP.

Ever wondered about the link between @Athletic_en & @NewportCounty? It goes back to the Basque refugee children who arrived in Caerleon during the Spanish Civil War. They created the formidable Basque Boys AFC. I wrote about their incredible story here: tinyurl.com/yc34nwpe
👏 Well done, lads!
Congratulations from the Basque Country!

The historic Pendragon House in Caerleon is for sale if you have a spare few quid! A beautiful house with an amazing history. It was where some of the Basque children refugees were cared for during the Spanish Civil War. #RefugeesWelcome #StopWar #Euskadi #Cymru #Gales #Wales
