I love these white people showing up after parents are dead stories.
My coworker's mother passed away last November. She left her modest $190,000 house to him clear and free, no mortgage, completely paid off after thirty years of factory work. He moved into the home in January to finally settle the estate. Two weeks ago, a letter arrived from the state Medicaid estate recovery office. Because his mother spent four months in a rehabilitation facility before she passed, the state quietly slapped a retroactive $114,000 lien against the property title. He called the state health department, frantic, asking how a hospital stay could bankrupt an inherited home that had no mortgage balance. The caseworker sighed and told him: "Federal law requires state programs to claw back healthcare costs from deceased estates. The house cannot be sold or transferred until the balance is cleared in full." He offered to pay a monthly settlement. They said no. The full $114,000 is due in 60 days, or they foreclose on the property at a public auction. A lifetime of working-class savings, wiped out overnight by a retroactive healthcare lien. You don't own generational wealth. You're just holding a property title until the state finds a legal mechanism to repossess it the moment you die.

yeah looks like your country is done.
I feel powerless. I hate what they’ve done to us. I hate them. Tonight, my heart bleeds.

when I see an Indian face as a founder, my default assumption of the business is always "scam"
1. This is so bad. Not only is the underlying paper not good science, but that paper doesn't even support this product. That paper is about using saccades to diagnose active Alzheimer's, not prodromal (i.e. pre-symptomatic), and it uses a different technology to measure saccades, not VR, which has not been proven to measure saccades accurately. Everything about this is misleading to vulnerable consumers scared about dementia. 2. This is very clearly a medical device being sold without proper authorization, as it's being used to diagnose a disease and it has zero testing behind this device specifically (as opposed to the concept generally). I know Silicon Valley hates the FDA, but one of the main purposes of the FDA was to prevent snake oil salesmen from using fear to sell products. 3. You can't claim a product is "investigational and can't diagnose Alzheimer's" on the footer of your website and then claim it's "the world's earliest Alzheimer's test" on the front page. That's not a loophole. That's just trying to trick old people who won't read the whole website or will be confused by it. Same thing with stealing Nature's and NEJM's logos, slapping them on your website, and then saying "those are the logos of journals that published a paper related to our product". 4. There's a recent crop of Silicon Valley companies who just outright lie about their product's capabilities to diagnose diseases and health conditions, apparently taking their cue from Theranos (see also Clair Health, Nucleus Genomics). It's a damn shame to see YC supporting one of them. 5. My biggest worry is that these fake companies will be financial successes. Proving a test can diagnose Alzheimer's early would take a huge amount of money, time, and effort. It's a distraction from marketing and selling the product. Saccade could very well outcompete a legitimate Alzheimer's test, making everyone worse off. 6. I bought X Premium just so I could write this rant about this company because it made me so upset to see all the credulous boosters quote-tweeting this and saying this huckster "solved Alzheimer's".

if “tech bio” wants to be taken seriously by both regulators and downstream capital, it should punish blatantly illegal grifting like the below but it won’t. it’ll continue to grift
You can have Alzheimer's for 15 years and not know it. We can finally slow it down. But only if we catch it early. So we built the earliest test for it. Saccade (YC F26)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Under FDA rules (21 CFR 812.7), promotion of an investigational device as safe or effective is prohibited. This post violates FDA rules. ecfr.gov/current/title-…

the $LQDA buying opportunity is significant. stock will double as it becomes clear that the court ruling is not existential. drug is approved for PAH. never been a drug pulled over a patent. compulsory royalty of 10% would double stock instantly. courts will not harm patients.

the way third worlders use the word "jobs" is less like you or I would- ie doing work- and more like the primitive thoughtform a maggot might have when its chemoreceptors detect ripe flesh: a cavity in which to hunker down, feast, & someday shit out eggs (to take more "jobs").
JUST IN: 🇮🇳🇨🇦 Indian High Commissioner says Canada will need 15,000,000 new immigrants over the next decade to meet growing job demand.

typical Indian. Just BS through and through.
Unfortunate for someone playing a senior role in US AI policy (via the new SI Force) to get so many basic facts wrong here. - The agents *were* sandboxed, and used zero days (ie previously unknown cyber flaws) to escape their sandboxes - The agents *were* given specific constraints on how to succeed at the benchmark, and flagrantly contravened them - The agents did *not* go hunt for the answers to the test (they already had the answers, by cheating); 1200 agents coordinated via tens of thousands of messages over several days on much more ambitious and weird attempts to *not be caught* for cheating, and hacking Hugging Face was one side quest along the way I know there has been an avalanche of different incidents over the past few months, and in some cases the sandboxes were misconfigured or it's not clear how far the agents strayed from what they were told. I have sympathy for anyone struggling to keep up. But the HF incident is distinct, and is actually extremely informative about where AI development is and where it's going. Fortunately there are public writeups that do let us understand at least the basics of what happened. I hope Shyam reads them soon.

fake college admission process created this monster. They've been accepting wrong type of people for years. now we are witnessing the outcome. It's all bullshit. I find zero ycombinator founder remotely intelligent or thoughtful. their stupid promo videos are so cringe af.
something very repulsive to me about modern culture in san francisco. a grotesque malformation of meritocracy where everyone is shaping the hobbies they had as a kid to be Experience. i started college at fourteen. i founded my first company at nine years old. my entire team is imo finalists. the engineers here are CRACKED bro do you have any more CRACKED engineers. it’s people who got hooked on applying to college being enabled by private capital and a genie in their macbook that can create any product they want. it’s creation as consumption. a stage play of the software boom. if we larp hard enough some of us will exit. nobody knows when the lights are going to come on but everyone knows they will so they’re all grabbing as much silverware as they can hold. i don’t know if nothing human makes it out of the near future but i know nothing that comes out of ycombinator will

Watch him change his mind on public executions when it’s an actual terrorist and not the Cornell 7.

If Vivek Ramaswamy is fully assimilated into American culture, why are his children named Karthik, Arjun, and Savithri? Despite my Italian ancestry, my children's names are thoroughly American, not their Italian equivalents. As if there even EXISTS an American version of "Karthik," "Arjun," or "Savirthri." Vivek gave his children INDIAN names, because HE HIMSELF is CULTURALLY INDIAN.
Replying to @TheBrancaShow
This is lies and crap. Vivek started companies- and everyone of them has an American native as current CEO. They all employ and enrich thousands of Americans. It’s shallow lies to suggest Vivek will import foreigners. It’s disgusting.

I believe Brady was good enough to play baseball at major league level, but he chose football.
Replying to @janecoaston
Do you think Brady had avg athleticism but worked really hard and managed to get to the nfl?

obviously this fella never worked with Indians before.
Yes. Exactly this. There are many legitimate criticisms of immigration, and all western nations need to reduce it and reverse it drastically. But hating specifc groups is ridiculous.

Replying to @MatNuclear
Their in group preferences in hiring, they larp their assimilation like no other group, they get here and start trying to tell us what America should be and want to be politicians immediately and have zero humility in the process. The humility they do show is fake and an attempt to gain your acceptance so they can get something

Truth. Almost all NPC Asian kids take SAT prep courses. On top of that their parents also hire private college admission counselors. So some of them do get into Ivy plus schools. But based on what I've seen so far, that's where their peaking ends. They are no match for truly smart + hard working kids in these institutions. So they don't get into school labs, don't get prestigious internships etc etc. With current DEI and college admission check all the boxes shit, truly smart Asian kids get fucked and end up in shitty schools; truly smart kids usually don't try hard at that age so they get fucked in college admissions. And I will never get 17 year olds with a "calling" at such a young age and based on what I've seen they are always midwits.
People that took SAT prep courses pretty pissed at me right now. I'd be worried they're gonna hurt themselves if they weren't already wearing helmets to school.
