Why your marvel rivals ranked games feel bad: (EOMM isn't real, but you're not crazy! Rivals has built in chronoshield, pass chronoshields, gaining +40 and losing -20, which are all designed to push you up in rank no matter how well you're performing or whether or not you've improved. If you play, you will climb! So when you queue up, player A who has played 100 hours this season but might be gold skill level, and player B who has played 10 hours this season but is diamond skill level are going to be the same rank. There's 12 people in a lobby. So the matchmaker puts people of equal rank on both teams, giving you 50/50 odds in the matchmakers eyes, but the skill level of player A, B, C, D, etc, are all SO different, so your game becomes a coinflip! Who got the players who have played the least? They win by default, and nobody has any impact on the game. The skill gap from both teams is too large for anyone besides a smurf to close. Today I played for 2.5 hours and had 2 close games where my performance mattered. In every other one, it was already decided at the start screen 😭 a complete stomp from either side. What makes this even worse is the ranks resetting every couple months! By the end of the 2 months, things finally start getting a little bit more balanced, and then the ranks reset and everything goes back to the beginning and match quality is absolutely HORRIBLE. Especially in bronze, silver, gold, where everyone is reset to bronze and the games are pure coinflip until silver and gold players climb back up. I play this game as my job and I can't keep up. I'll be top 500, take a few days break, and then be in lobbies that are 5 ranks lower than I'm supposed to be, and then I have to suffer hours and hours of coinflip to get up to where I was before. Then I don't play a few days and the process repeats. It is so frustrating!! It makes me not want to play at all. Many of my friends who were grandmaster or celestial or eternity previously have gotten frustrated with this, so they stopped playing. Now, two rank resets have gone by so they're in silver. Returning to the game and being silver is insane, now you have to grind for like 20 hours through boring lobbies that you're literally smurfing in to get back to where you were, and every one of those games are ruined because of how big the skill disparity is between you and the rest of the lobby. Imagine how many cases there are of that!! How many games get ruined. EOMM isn't real, but your games are super random and this is why it feels like it's real!
