DEMOCRACY DAY MESSAGE BY DR. GABRIEL BARITULEM PIDOMSON
Fellow Rivers People and Nigerians,
As we commemorate Democracy Day, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the enduring spirit of freedom, popular participation, and the collective will of the people.
This day reminds us that democracy is not merely about elections but about accountable leadership, justice, equity, inclusion, and the unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the people.
As Rivers State prepares for another defining chapter in 2027, I am inspired by the hopes and aspirations of our people for a government that is competent, transparent, inclusive, and development-driven. I share that vision and remain committed to offering purposeful leadership that will unlock the enormous potential of our dear state and place it on a path to enviable heights of economic prosperity, infrastructural renewal, security, youth empowerment, and social justice.
Our diversity should be our greatest strength, not a source of division. The future of Rivers State must be built on merit, capacity, and a shared commitment to progress rather than ethnic or sectional considerations. Together, we can build a state where every citizen has equal opportunity to succeed and where government truly serves the people.
I encourage every eligible citizen to participate actively in the democratic process, protect the sanctity of their vote, and remain steadfast in defending the principles that sustain our democracy.
The Rivers State of our dreams is achievable. With unity, courage, and visionary leadership, we can create a future that generations yet unborn will be proud of.
May God bless Rivers State, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Happy Democracy Day!
Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson. ADC Rivers State Governorship Candidate.

2027: LET CAPACITY, NOT TRIBE, DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF RIVERS STATE
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, Rivers people stand at a defining moment in our history. The choice before us is simple: continue to allow tribal sentiments to shape our politics or embrace competence, capacity, and character as the true standards for leadership.
The challenges confronting Rivers State—economic uncertainty, unemployment, infrastructure deficits, insecurity, and declining public confidence in governance—cannot be solved by ethnicity. They require a leader with proven experience, sound judgment, administrative competence, and an inclusive vision for the future.
Sir Dr. Gabriel B. Pidomson, the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), embodies these qualities. A former legislator and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, his years of public service have equipped him with the knowledge, experience, and capacity required to lead Rivers State into a new era of progress.
Rivers State belongs to every son and daughter of the state. No single ethnic group owns the future, and no community should be made to feel superior or inferior in determining who leads. What should matter is who possesses the vision, integrity, and competence to unite our people and deliver meaningful development.
The politics of division has held our state back for too long. It is time to embrace a new culture where ideas triumph over identity, performance outweighs propaganda, and capacity supersedes tribe.
Sir Dr. Gabriel B. Pidomson represents a leadership founded on inclusiveness, accountability, and purposeful governance. His aspiration is not for one ethnic nationality but for every Rivers citizen who desires a state where opportunities are created, institutions are strengthened, businesses thrive, and every community enjoys the dividends of good governance.
The future of Rivers State will not be built by tribal calculations but by visionary leadership. Let us choose competence over sentiment, unity over division, and capacity over ethnicity.
Sir. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson.
ADC Rivers State Governorship Candidate.

2027 is about Capacity, Character, Vision, and Inclusiveness not ethnic politics or divisive narratives.
Dr. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson represents a leadership philosophy that transcends ethnic sentiments and sectional interests. His message is one of unity, competence, and a shared prosperity for every part of Rivers State.
At a time when many Rivers people are yearning for purposeful and inclusive leadership, the focus should be on who possesses the capacity to unite the state, inspire confidence, and deliver meaningful development for all citizens regardless of tribe, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
The future of Rivers State belongs to a leader with character, vision, and the ability to bring everyone to the table. That is the conversation that should define 2027.

Environment Minister Calls for Increased Donor Support to Complete Ogoniland Environmental Restoration Project
Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, on Tuesday urged development partners, donors, and the diplomatic community to provide additional financial, technical, and strategic support for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) to ensure the full restoration of Ogoniland.
Speaking at a Conference on Donor Facilitation and Diplomatic Support Engagement for HYPREP held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, the minister highlighted both significant progress and the urgent need for sustained international backing to complete one of the world’s most ambitious environmental remediation efforts.
Lawal expressed profound gratitude to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for its pivotal role, noting that the landmark UNEP Environmental Assessment of Ogoniland served as the scientific foundation and roadmap for the project.
“Since its establishment, HYPREP has achieved remarkable results,” the minister said. Hundreds of hectares of hydrocarbon-polluted land have been remediated, with more sites currently in progress. Potable water schemes have restored access to safe drinking water, large-scale mangrove restoration is reviving ecosystems, modern healthcare facilities are under construction, and livelihood programmes have empowered thousands through skills training and entrepreneurship. A Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration is also being developed as a hub for research and capacity building in Africa.
These achievements, Lawal added, demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to environmental justice and offer hope that decades of degradation can be reversed.
However, he cautioned that the journey remains incomplete. Resources under the current UNEP-supported framework are nearing exhaustion, making additional support essential for consolidating gains, completing outstanding projects, ensuring long-term monitoring, and maintaining infrastructure and ecosystems.
“We therefore call on development partners, donor agencies, international financial institutions, philanthropic foundations, private-sector organizations, and members of the diplomatic community to deepen their engagement with HYPREP,” Lawal stated. “Your support, whether financial, technical, scientific, technological, or strategic, will be crucial.”
The minister described the Ogoniland restoration as more than a national project, positioning it as a global model for environmental recovery, climate resilience, and international cooperation.
Its success, he said, will show what can be achieved when governments, communities, development partners, and the private sector unite. He expressed confidence that the conference would foster new partnerships and innovative financing to accelerate the programme’s completion.
