Opal Lee, known as the “grandmother of Juneteenth,” celebrated her 100th birthday by kicking off construction of a museum in her hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, dedicated to the history of Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. abcnews.link/guQUj5b

Trump ordered the USDA to close the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Maryland, which houses the nation's oldest and most prominent bee research laboratory, and almost no one blinked an eye.
THIS MATTERS.
First, this is just one of the cuts to agricultural research funding he’s made, which, together, cost us $32 million. That’s like six Trump weekend golf vacations. If he wants to save money, he can start by cutting those.
Second, scientists JUST found that bee venom can kill cancer cells. MAGA loves to say we wouldn’t be able to say something nice about the current president “even if he cured cancer.” Well, now we’ll never know. Because, yet again, he cut funding for it.
And finally, the part everyone’s ignoring: he’s only president for 2.5 more years. In 2.5 years, someone who ACTUALLY loves America will win office and inherit a repair job. The brilliant people he fired will all have found new jobs, and we’ll have to find people to replace them.
The damage he’s doing will take a LONG time to undo.
Congratulations! A win for all Gwinnett County voters!!
VICTORY!
A Georgia judge Wednesday dismissed a Republican lawsuit seeking to restrict where Gwinnett County voters can return mail ballots, ruling the law allows the county to accept ballots at designated early voting sites. democracydocket.com/news-ale…

In one night in 1919, a mob rounded up almost the entire Black population of a Kentucky town, about two hundred people — marched them to the railway station at gunpoint, and put them on a train out.
The town stayed almost entirely white for the next seventy years. Corbin, Kentucky.
The trigger was a rumour about an assault on a white railway worker. There had been no investigation.
Several hundred men went house to house through the night. People were pulled out of bed. They were given minutes. Possessions, homes, businesses, tools — all left where they stood.
They were held at the depot and loaded onto a train in the morning.
Historians call them expulsions, or racial cleansings. It is one of the main ways sundown towns were created — not by signs, but by a single night.
They were given minutes to leave the only homes they had ever known. Corbin is the kind of history our book was created to uncover—when an entire Black community was driven out, and the world moved on as if nothing happened savvypurchase.samcart.com/pr…

Happy Birthday!!! Hero:)
elizabeth eckford turns 85 today. at 15 she walked up to an all-white high school alone on her first day, because her family had no phone and she never heard the other eight students were meeting somewhere else. a mob screamed at her and armed soldiers blocked the door. she got inside later that month. the next year the governor closed every high school in little rock to stop integration, so she never graduated from central. she finished her diploma by mail and night classes, earned a college degree and served five years in the army. in 1999 she received the congressional gold medal. she walked up first and alone, and that door has stayed open for everyone since.

🚨WTF: Two Black Adults Dead On An E-Bike After Car Plows Into Them. The Sheriff’s Son Who Was The Driver Of The Vehicle Was Not Arrested For Days.
NOW, HE IS FINALLY CHARGED WITH MURDER
Listed prior stops: 95 in a 45, 90 in a 55, more speeding, a red light. Those cases got cut down. Total fines on the old tickets: about $713.
On Sept. 30 he was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of felony death by motor vehicle.
Two people dead. A sheriff captain’s son. Days with no arrest. Then a murder charge.
WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS!!!!
The right to vote in 2026 will be a battle in the Courts and the Streets until the end!! We must do everything in our power to educate, mobilize, support and protect voters!! @TJC_DC is prepared to partner up in 20 states to do our part!
Black women are not believed and punished inhumanely too often in the criminal justice system.
She lost her son, and then the state told her she had killed him, and then it put her in a cell to die for it.
Her nine-month-old son stopped breathing. She ran to a neighbour, tried CPR the way she had seen it done, and drove him to the hospital.
He died. Mississippi charged her with his murder and sentenced her to death. She was eighteen.
Sabrina Butler. The bruising on the baby's body was from her attempts to resuscitate him. The prosecution presented it as a beating.
No one told her she had the right to remain silent in any way she understood. She gave a statement trying to explain what she had done, and it was used against her.
Her trial lasted a matter of days. The jury took less than an hour. She was sent to death row at nineteen, pregnant with her second child, and gave birth in custody.
The Mississippi Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1992.
At the retrial in 1995, medical evidence showed the child had died of a kidney condition — a documented illness, not an injury. She was acquitted in about twenty minutes.
Sabrina Butler is the first woman in the United States ever exonerated from death row. Mississippi has never compensated her.
She now speaks publicly against the death penalty. She has said the hardest part was never the cell. It was that for five years nobody would let her grieve.
Sabrina Butler’s case is the kind of buried injustice that helped inspire our Ebook, 150 Crimes Against Black America They Never Answered For—because some of our stories leave questions that still deserve answers.
