I have written endlessly about our demographic reality & how we are staring at a ticking time bomb. Roughly 50% of our population is under 18, & 70% is under 30. These numbers should worry anyone, given the current economic realities.
The horrors of the Sahara migration route are the direct result of a state failing its young people. We're churning out millions of graduates & workers into an economy that produces nothing. Desperation is driving them into the unknown.
You cannot insulate yourself from this. History shows that building a private life raft does not matter if the entire ship sinks. Individual wealth cannot survive collective ruin. The French elite learned this the hard way.
This is why getting the leadership right is an existential matter. We are one or two elections away from Mad Max: Fury Road.
You live in Nigeria;
After reading Fisayo's expose on migration across the Sahara, you should think deeply about the impact of the youth unemployment crisis in Nigeria/Africa.
Forget about the politics of immigration in the West, or those who proclaim that "Jesus believes in closed borders" - you do not operate in the same context as they do, and their problems are not your problems.
They can afford to treat the millions of Africans who are so desperate they are willing cross the Sahara for better opportunities as "vermin".
You cannot; they are basically your brothers and sisters - or you, if you fall on particularly hard times.
You are going to have to think creatively about this - and act, and this is a collective problem, not a problem that can be solved by "personal breakthroughs".
