Crawling isn't innate (unlike walking). Every baby must *invent* crawling, from scratch, using extremely little data, and no reference to imitate. Which is why different babies end up with different ways of crawling.
Sometimes people tell me, "you say AI isn't intelligent until it can invent, but most humans can't invent anything either!" -- in reality, we are all constantly inventing. Even babies are inventors. You couldn't navigate a single day in your life if you weren't capable of invention.

Researchers have mathematically proven that the universe cannot be a computer simulation.
Their paper in the Journal of Holography Applications in Physics shows that reality operates on principles beyond computation.
Using GΓΆdelβs incompleteness theorem, they argue that no algorithmic or computational system can fully describe the universe, because some truths, so called "GΓΆdelian truths" require non algorithmic understanding, a form of reasoning that no computer or simulation can reproduce.
Since all simulations are inherently algorithmic, and the fundamental nature of reality is non algorithmic, the researchers conclude that the universe cannot be, and could never be a simulation.

What's very interesting is that Zelensky can "end this war any moment" by surrendering his country and betraying his people and his heroically fighting military, but Putin at the same time absolutely can't -- he is unequivocally forced into slaughtering hundreds of people on battlefields and murdering peaceful Ukrainians in their homes every single day.
Go figure.

This is a nuclide chart.
Number of Protons on Y axis
Number of Neutrons on X axis
The chart shows every known element and every known isotope.
The proton number determines the element, the neutron number determines the isotope.
The colour illustrates the half life of each type of atom, the vast majority of atomic structures decay quickly but the chart shows a spine of stable atoms in assembly-space.
There are a few weird features in this data.

In my school in a town close to Moscow, I was taught in geography class in 1990s, that russia has never sold Alaska to the U.S., but leased it for 100 years. That the U.S. have later forged the contract and broken the original one. That Alaska is russian. /2

A CD.
A movie.
A piece of software.
Your were given a physical thing with a set price that you controlled.
Now, everything is a 'subscription'.
More expensive over time.
Taken off you for 'violating' terms & services.
Permanently connected to the 'update' matrix.
Easily lost with no compensation.
Cannot pass it down to anyone.
This type of 'modernity' is exploitation under the excuse of 'convenience'.

Most environmental destruction and species extinctions on earth were done by stone age men.
Most deforestation was done by pre-industrial homesteading farmers, and recent recovery of forest cover has been entirely driven by industrialization reducing pressure on land.

a funny thing about degrowth/primitivism discourse is that fundamentally the most environmentally destructive and unsustainable human lifestyle was the hunter/gatherer phase, the entire earth would be stripped bare supporting a population of 1 million hunter gatherers

I have a simple theory for this.
Any time this question is asked, people point to cultural or moral reasons (e.g., the declinist view of Western society or some other mumbo jumbo).
IMO, this is only because they lack insight into more important structural reasons, such as politics, economics, or institutions. Culture is certainly an important variable when discussing social outcomes. But it's often a black box used to explain variation that can't be explained by more important structural factors (and sometimes, culture emerges from structural factors!). And thus, when people lack insight into politics, economics, history, or institutions, they conveniently wave their hand and say "culture."
I have a simple theory for why we don't build stuff like this anymore: patronage.
These buildings didn't just pop out of the ground. They were funded through imperial or aristocratic patronage. That means they were funded by the state, church, or tycoons (e.g. New and Old Money).
This specific building below is Palais Garnier opera house in France, designed by Charles Garnier and built at the behest of Napoleon III. At the time, it cost about 36 million francs, which I believe is about $500M today. It took about fifteen years to build. The French state was fine with funding it because it projected imperial grandeur.
Certainly, we have expensive architectural projects today. But a lot of the money goes towards meeting code (e.g., structural integrity, seismic requirements, sustainability requirements). Labor is also more expensive now because you can't just exploit people (at least when there are unions). Land might also cost more, depending on the location of the project.
Building something like this today would cost considerably more than $500M.
And who would fund it? Can you imagine if the US government βΒ currently already undergoing austerity cuts βΒ spent something like a billion dollars on a building that only people in a certain city could enjoy? People would rightly lose their minds. You can't build something like this because 1) public scrutiny is higher, 2) we vote, and 3) this is seen as wasteful spending.
Of course, you could get billionaires to fund it. I have lamented that Jeff Bezos buys crappy designer dinner suits instead of using bespoke tailors, but some people lost their minds ("who cares?" "he's rich" or "he can do what he wants").
I'm not suggesting that we make a law preventing Bezos from spending money how he likes. But thus far, he has poured about $15 billion into Blue Origin. Can he spend $1 billion on building beautiful public libraries, theaters, or museums? They can be in this Beaux-Arts or Baroque architectural style, if he likes.
People ask "Why did humans stop building like this?" They should follow-up with: "How were these projects built? Who funded them? And why don't more billionaires today support artisans, craftspeople, and public work projects?"
FWIW, I have made this argument before and if you'd like to read it, you can check out this thread:

Is everyone fucking nuts? Did we actually believe that after decades and decades of studying the brain and coming up with next to zilch, that a handful of rich, arrogant midwits in Silicon Valley would come to a full understanding of consciousness and deliver to us artificial general intelligence? Do you know that the Swiss Blue Brain Project and Human Brain Project, both terminated last year after years of expensive research, which sought to digitally reconstruct entire brains, discovered next to nothing useful about intelligence or consciousness, except that a brain, even a mouse brain, is so complex that it overwhelms super computers? Ten years of the HBP made "no major contributions" to an understanding of the brain. We do not understand the mind or the brain. AI is a toy, a fake. What we have is a language modelβan algorithm. Give it up. It is a joke.
