Great time in Berlin! Today at @scaladays, @danielciocirlan and I presented our new web framework called eezo. Model routes and entities using #Scala case classes and derivation. Drop us a ⭐️ on GitHub and contribute! Here is the site 🌐: eezo.io/

What might be a better way to interface with @typesafeai's #Jev than through a type-safe API? And what language might be better suited for the task than #Scala? That's why sttp-ai now has a fully type-safe Jev integration module: github.com/softwaremill/sttp… Enjoy :)

who would have thought type safety would be all the rage in the age of AI 😆 kyo-ai is getting a Jev integration and it's mind blowing how useful this kind of model is! It's nice to see the industry moving on from "we just need bigger models". Examples in 🧵

Tech news is dominated by LLMs these days, but it's same old, same old, and I'm actually more excited about the new #Scala 3.9 LTS 😍 scala-lang.org/news/3.9/

After 6+ years at Devsisters, I’m ready for my next challenge. I’m a hands-on backend architect with 15+ years of experience designing and building large-scale backend systems, distributed architectures, and high-concurrency live-service game platforms. I’m also a library author and maintainer in the Scala open-source ecosystem, where I’ve created projects including Caliban, Shardcake, and Proteus. I’d love to continue working primarily with Scala in my next role. I’m looking for: - Location: Remote worldwide or hybrid/onsite in South Korea - Focus: Backend architecture, distributed systems, and lead/principal engineering roles If you think my experience could be a good fit for your team, feel free to send me a DM. If you know someone hiring, a share or repost would be hugely appreciated!

I think it's been over a year since I last rewrote Kyo's kernel. Yes, that was looong 😆 I'm on my 11th complete rewrite right now and I must say that the maturity of LLMs truly changed the experience. On each version, I got performance comparisons across multiple libraries, in-depth profiling including JIT compilation details, bytecode and asm inspection, exploration of multiple possible paths, research of prior art, all easily automated Yes, I shouted at Claude numerous times, it made terrible mistakes 🤖 It lost a significant part of the work, preventing it from degrading the kernel into an impure VM is a constant uphill battle, it can produce extremely overengineered solutions, but damn... this thing is a marvel if you're able to make it work as what it is: a tool Long story short: Kyo's long-overdue fixes for Scope and a step change in the performance of the kernel are close to shipping 🙌

Kyo rewrote Postgres and MySQL wire protocols so you never have to see JDBC again 🥳 RC6 is out. Write once, run anywhere, turbocharged 🚀🚀🚀 kyo-sql gives you raw SQL plus a typed DSL that mirrors SQL syntax, statements suspend fibers instead of blocking threads, and one set of sources compiles for JVM, JS, Native, Wasm, and GraalVM Under it all is kyo-net and kyo-ffi: one C transport and TLS stack over io_uring, epoll, kqueue, NIO, Node, and BoringSSL. Yes, your Node.js process now runs io_uring and BoringSSL 😱 Heads up: JDK 25 is now required for the main modules Bonus: kyo-ai now runs on your Claude Code or Codex subscription instead of per-token billing 💸

📢 A decade after I published Quill, kyo-sql is landing with a fresh new approach! 🙌 ✅ First-class support for both raw SQL and typed queries ✅ Two-way interop: raw SQL in typed queries and typed queries in raw SQL 🤩 ✅ Support for JVM, Native, Wasm, JS on top of Kyo's new high-perf async network stack ✅ Pluggable drivers, MySQL and Postgres included, with DB-specific features ✅ Compile-time query generation without friction via inlining 🙌🏼 Something that has been great is how Kyo's Record has enabled much simpler and ergonomic designs. It's a cornerstone of a few modules so far: fully typed http routes (including filters!), seamless state handling in durable workflows, and now typed SQL queries with semantics close to relational algebra, reducing friction. Yes, flexible structural typing with rich type-level transformations is a reality in Scala 3 with Kyo! 🧙🏼‍♂️ I realized a long time ago that expressing SQL as collection/monadic operations like Quill did has always been a dead end. This new work corrects the record and mirrors SQL syntax in the typed DSL instead This module gets us much closer to 1.0 in time with the upcoming Scala 3.9 LTS. It's been a long journey, and we're finally close to the finish line!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Gonna try this, even though nobody uses IDEs nowadays and I don't either. But somehow I cannot "not use" the other editor, and this looks so promising that it's possible to fix IntelliJ.
About two years and 1.74b tokens later - I completely replaced the IntelliJ's Scala implementation with the actual Scala 3 compiler (because why not?) Too bad nobody uses IDEs anymore ;)

Effect for TypeScript has done more to help get developers into typed functional programming than anything else that preceded it. The new Effect website is a good explanation of its value. While I still write most of my Effect Oriented code in Scala, I’m incredibly grateful for all the work to bring this paradigm to the masses. Better software is now easier to build. And many developers now have a better understanding of the best foundations to build on. Thank you to all who have contributed to growing Effect Oriented Programming!
We shipped a brand-new Effect website. Take it for a spin, click everything, and let us know what you think. Bugs, feedback, confusing bits, we want all of it ↓ effect.website

📢 Kyo is getting a brand new network stack with backends for kqueue, epoll, nio, node, and io_uring! It works across JVM, JS, Wasm, and Native with TLS support in all 😎 Throughput is up to 2x ZIO and 4.7x Cats, with 9-29x fewer allocations per request 😱

People are so close to discovering kyo-ai and the joy of seamless deterministic workflows with typed generation :)
So many people are asking about what graphs are in replies. Agentic graphs are deterministic pipelines where agents decide which agent or step comes next (make decisions) based on structured data. That also naturally means they include loops and parallelism.

Good news! The issue with large custom fonts should be fixed now. It'll be shipped in both LTS versions (Scala 3.9 and 3.3.x).
🚨 @sonatype Central introduced soft rate limits a few days ago, with the plan to enforce them on August 11, 2026. My humble namespace was flagged after one release! 🙄

Had an old Play Framework Scala webapp I hadn't touched in 10 years. Told Kiro to migrate it to Kyo and use Kyo UI. Done in minutes. And wow I love Kyo UI! It's like Elm but for Scala and Effect Oriented. Nice work @fwbrasil!
