For the last several years, @ASCO meetings have emphasized the importance of language. Speakers are expected to follow the "Language of Respect" guidance throughout their presentations and interactions with attendees. Words matter.
Patients don't "fail therapies," rather, therapies can fail our patients.
People aren't defined by their illness, or by changes to their cancer genome (e.g., don't refer to "EGFR mutants").
Side effects aren't always "well tolerated," especially if you're the patient, rather than the investigator/presenter.
And we strive to introduce and refer to all speakers professionally, and respectfully.
Kudos to @tmprowell @NarjustFlorezMD and many others for their leadership on this important issue! #ASCO24 is a meeting for everyone.
