Remember Gaja the dog that ran on the pitch during Macedonia v Scotland? A downmarket Scottish newspaper made up a story off the back of a comment from a well meaning Macedonian lady on our FB Group without doing any fact checking. She was unaware that we’d been quietly making arrangements to secure Gaja with a view to getting her rehomed in Scotland when she posted, and unfortunately it got turned into a story before we’d have liked it to. Since that story got published, Gaja vanished. The NGO we’ve been working with has her chip registered to them but there have been no sightings of her for weeks. We hope she’s now got a loving home in Skopje rather than something more sinister. We had a home lined up for her in Scotland, and home checks have been done. As the weeks have passed the NGO has shared videos showing them looking for Gaja and while doing so there have been many encounters with Gaja’s brother Johnny and a small pack of other dogs in the area where Gaja usually hangs about. That prospective new owner has fallen in love with Johnny, and has decided to adopt him. Johnny had a tough start to life and has visible scars from when he’d been mistreated as a young pup. Johnny is secure in a boarding house in Skopje, he’s been vet checked and vaccinated, and we’re just awaiting the paperwork to start the next stage, and getting his transport to Scotland organised. There is a GoFundMe to help get Johnny to Scotland, and it’s almost reached the target. Johnny’s new owner didn’t want any publicity when they were looking to adopt Gaja, or now, but we’ve said we’d like to try and help them reach the target using our wee platform.
