We studied the genomics of social polymorphism in ants. We identified a "social chromosome" associated with colony structure in the desert ant Cataglyphis niger. This chromosome is homologous to the social chromosome of the fire ant Solenopsis invicta.

Megajournals like @SciReports, @PLOSONE and @IJERPH_MDPI threaten scientific progress, benefiting only publishers and their shareholders. We need non-profit institutions to lead scientific publishing! #OpenScience #NonProfitPublishing ☢️

Now out OA and in its final version @CurrentBiology: Pheromone representation in the ant antennal lobe changes with age. Lead by @teraxurato, with crucial assistance from @lindselopes and @Dom_Frank3 @RockefellerUniv.
sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
How ants respond to pheromones changes with age, an important aspect of their division of labor. In a new preprint from the lab @RockefellerUniv, @teraxurato, @lindselopes and @Dom_Frank3 show that, as the behavior changes, so does the representation of pheromones in the brain.

Ant sex!🐜🧬 @miya_qpan's first ant paper marks the beginning of her journey into the mysteries of haplodiploidy in ants. I am ready to be surprised by what comes next!
🤩Excited to share our new paper in @ScienceAdvances 🐜 ! We describe a new molecular mechanism underlying complementary sex determination in the Argentine ant 🐜, involving a long non-coding RNA that we named ANTSR :) 🐜
