There is absolutely no mystery here.
For the nth time: it's not the schools, it's the family.
If you want you fix education, start with the family.
Schools CANNOT provide to kids the things missing from their families.
Provide free breakfast and lunch. Provide before and after "care." Provide tutors and barbershops and free hygiene products and cutting edge tech and hire the top 1% of the smartest, most competent and driven human beings on the planet to be teachers and pay them nine zillion dollars a year.
Worthless without a dad.
Worthless without a mom.
Worthless without FAMILY.
You people just don't get it.
School culture is downstream of family culture.
I worked in museum education for a time, which meant I worked with K-12 school groups from all five boroughs.
The differences between public and private school kids shocked me. Like, shook me to my core.
- private school 3rd graders who could sit and talk about art vs. 10th grade public school students who could barely read
- private and charter school students who'd walk quietly down a hallway vs. public school teenagers who screamed at each other and tried to swat the smoke detector off of the ceiling
The behavior and academic ability of these students would vary of course, even within their school types. But when you host a bunch of schools of all kinds from across the city, you start to notice patterns.
Such a blackpill for me on the city's public education system.

Everyone is in agreement that this is a terrible decision, but I've been mulling why and it raises an interesting question.
The affection of a father for a child is expressed very, very differently from the expression of a mother for a child, and vice versa. When I think of those sublime scenes in the books, where Aslan rebukes, corrects, and forgives, and especially that agonizing moment when Lucy and Susan comfort him while he is "in the garden," I certainly perceive the kind and signs of love only a father could render.
Does that sound right?

In a recent forum, popular neuroscientist and health guru, Andrew Huberman, revealed his secret for falling asleep in those anxious mid-morning hours when he says you shouldn't believe any thought that fills your mind. He said, "I'm being completely direct with you when I say it's worked every single time."
Huberman: "What I do is I get out of bed, and I pray. And these days, you know, again, I'm just being completely direct with my practice, I just pray to God. I pray, I just ask Jesus, 'Would you please hold me and bring me some peace so I can rest, so I can be my best self tomorrow, so I can serve the world better. And I'm hurting right now, and I can't seem to do it for myself.'
He also referenced techniques for calming the body in this discussion, but he emphasized the relief he has found through prayer:
"It's a great time to pray. I'm serious, many a night, many a night, you will find me on my knees praying in the hours between 3 and 5:00 a.m. simply for peace, simply to get to morning without additional stress, simply just trying to listen for something other than my own anxious thoughts."
As a woman in her late 40s, I found it comforting to know that even big, strong health gurus know what it's like to struggle with sleep, but also to be reminded that ultimately it's the Lord who gives peace and rest to those who cast their anxious cares on Him. 💤

In Michigan, Planned Parenthood spent millions of dollars and flooded the airways to ensure we would enshrine in our constitution the most radical pro-abortion position possible.
Catholics lined right up and voted for it.
I’m not exaggerating when I say I have never recovered from it and I don’t know if I ever will.
You can’t know how horrible it feels to wake up one morning and watch the news and know that legalized murder is now the normative part of the life of your state.
I beg you, vote against this horror.

Put it in your calendar, show up and vote.
The pro-life movement does not have the backing of any political party, they don’t have a government funded multibillion dollar industry like Planned Parenthood: their blood soaked hands are filled with money.

If that’s not a human in the womb, then what is it? When does it become a human? What scientific criteria do people use to make that determination?

Lots of teacher discourse on what to assign for reading.
Harold Bloom wrote an incredible book entitled "How to Read a Book."
I'd like to follow that up with a book entitled "Why to Read a Book."
It would be 3 chapters long.
Ch. 1: Read a book for knowledge (in pursuit of the truth)
Ch. 2: Read a book for formation, especially the forming of the moral imagination (in pursuit of goodness)
Ch. 3: Read a book for pleasure, of the genuine kind (in pursuit of beauty)
Ch. 4 would just be a list of books that do all three well.
What books would you add to the list?
