When the bulldozers sent by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to demolish book stalls set up by the CPI(M) were turned back by people’s resistance, the BJP took a leaf out of the Nazi playbook and sent in armed police personnel, along with BJP-RSS goons, to smash the book stalls. The priorities of the BJP government are evident when it deploys a huge police force to destroy books, while 19 people, including a child, lost their lives in Chorbagan due to the lack of adequate police arrangements to control crowds and ensure public safety.

West Bengal | Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS in parts of the Bowbazar area for 3 days, from Oct 18 to Oct 20, to prevent breach of peace. It bans the assembly of five or more individuals, the possession of lathis or dangerous weapons, and any actions that disrupt public harmony.

As the Election Commission launches a special drive in 20 states to bring back voters “left out” in the SIR, its officers are staring at a unique problem: persuading lakhs, possibly crores, of people to fill Form 6, the “Application Form for New Voters,” which asks them to declare they are applying “for the first time.”
Form 6 is the right route back, and officials say signing it invites no legal action. But people who’ve voted for decades balk at calling themselves new, and many believe the declaration is false.
Against that backdrop, Maharashtra’s CEO has proposed a fix: drop “New Voters” from the title, and let the deleted say they were enrolled before and cite their old EPIC number.

ABP has also reported that this pujo chairman is the Jorasanko BJP MLA, Bijay Ojha. A prominent organiser is Debadeep Adhikari, the CM's nephew, and the N Kolkata BJP President Tamaghno Ghosh.
The Telegraph and ABP Ananda report atleast 17 people have died in a stampede triggered by a partial collapse of the Chorbagan pandal.
It was reported that there were multiple lapses and complacency in the safety evaluation of major pandals this year by authorities.
Whoever is responsible should be prosecuted. Condolences to the deceased.
