North Korean hackers stole approximately $6.36 billion from Binance in what blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs described as the largest cryptocurrency theft on record, attributing the attack to the state-sponsored group TraderTraitor.
The funds moved across 10 blockchains beginning at 20:05 UTC on October 29, with most transfers occurring within 20 minutes.
TRM Labs said the attack bore similarities to previous North Korean-linked operations, including the February 2025 Bybit hack.
Tether, Circle, Ripple, World Liberty Financial and Arbitrum’s Security Council have frozen approximately $2.7 billion in assets, while an estimated $2.4 billion remains beyond their reach.

On March 22, 2024, one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in modern Russian history took place at a concert venue near Moscow.
Before a performance by the band Piknik, armed men stormed the building and opened fire on concertgoers. A massive fire then broke out inside the venue, causing part of the roof to collapse.
149 people were killed and hundreds more were injured. The Islamic State terrorist group’s Afghan affiliate, ISIS-K, claimed responsibility for the attack.
On March 12, 2026, a Russian court sentenced 19 defendants in the case. Fifteen received life sentences.
