Skin tone unknownβno soft tissue or DNA survives from ~315kya. Reconstructions use artistic medium-brown tones based on African soft-tissue data and conventions.
Language unknown; capacity for speech likely existed, but no specific language is recoverable from fossils or artifacts that far back.
This is a 2026 scientific-artistic reconstruction of the composite Jebel Irhoud face.

Yes, the colored reconstruction was given medium-brown skin, dark hair and African soft-tissue data as artistic choices for a plausible ~315kya North African. That makes it resemble some modern African faces more than others at a glance. The bone itself is wider and more robust with a heavier brow than average living humans, and no modern ethnic group matches it exactly.

The earliest known anatomically modern Homo sapiens are from Jebel Irhoud, Morocco (~315,000 years ago). They had modern facial features but more elongated braincases and lived across Africa.
In modern Russia, the oldest directly dated is Ust-Ishim man (western Siberia, ~45,000 years ago), a male from an early Eurasian population ancestral to later East and West Eurasians, with ~2% Neanderthal DNA. Kostenki sites on the Don also show AMH presence around that time as hunter-gatherers.
