Replying to @awmannes
If you read the post, you'll see, I am (inspired by @dandrezner - but not as funny) going to keep a thread open and going about what roles Kamala plays in the Biden administration and what they tell us about administration priorities.

Netanyahu is Israel's longest-serving PM.
He picked or influenced most of the senior intel & military brass. He chose to split Palestinians by propping up Hamas. He chose to block an independent Knesset or military commission of 10/7.
He will never take responsibility.

CAIR is entitled to run campaigns to use gov force to marginalize Jews. This is the world they are helping build.
Jews should not pull their punches when it comes to this bigotry and nobody should shy away from using gov force against this anti-American org.
The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is running an antizionist campaign against a Reform Jewish children’s camp, pressuring Greenwich Public Schools to cancel a sixth-grade field trip to the site — URJ Eisner Camp in Great Barrington, Massachusetts — because of the camp’s ties to Israel.
CAIR, an antizionist organization the federal government has previously linked to Hamas fundraising, says that even removing the camp’s Israeli flag and the yellow Israeli hostage ribbons it displays would not satisfy its objections to the site.

Can't think of a contemporary scholar who has so discredited himself and his work as Mearsheimer has done over Ukraine.
Everyone wants to talk about AI. Serious people work on data. Questions about what is collected, how it is collected and maintained, must be at the forefront of building AI and making AI policy.

Data is hard, messy, and imperfect. But it is everything. If you want good AI (that is AI that is safe, secure, and useful), you need good data. The best AI, without good data, won’t be much good. Good data, without AI, is still a powerful resource.

People like Smotrich are unfit to serve in the state built by survivors of pogroms, the Shoah, and many ethnic expulsions.
I encourage every diaspora Jew with ties in Israel to get your friends and family to vote against Bibi and his hateful stooges.
Need something new to get mad about? I’ve got you covered.
We NEED this research. I explain why in the video and linked article below.
Trying something new!
Here’s a short video about the article I wrote on why funding social science research is important.
Here’s the link to the article, give it a read and subscribe--it's mostly about vice presidents. It's fun, informative, and FREE!

The NSF has eliminated funding for social science. This is a huge mistake and will cost the U.S. and really the world dearly. I wrote about this last week and I’ll keep repeating it: social science is just as essential as the other sciences.
aaronmannes.substack.com/p/c…
The administration is eviscerating funding for social science research at the NSF. The social sciences may get a bad rap, but as I explain in today’s post, if you want the best technology you are going to need social science.
aaronmannes.substack.com/p/c…
The Trump administration is cutting funding for social science research funding.
BAD IDEA!
If we want the best AI, we need good social science to make sure the technology works for people. And what’s with the retro science fiction image—well read on!

Brazil’s VP isn't much of a factor in the upcoming run-off elections. This was no surprise. The surprise was that Brazil’s President brought him into the government and made him a partner. Most presidents worldwide, don’t! Why was this time different?
aaronmannes.substack.com/p/t…
Unlike most other presidents in Brazil (or anywhere really), Lula has built a strong relationship with his VP—like the best POTUS-VP partnerships. Does it matter for the election: not really. But it could matter for Brazil’s future.

Enjoying my Sukkah for last time this season—I ponder the place of this joyous holiday, in the Jewish calendar. It follows the intense Days of Awe, in which we face up to our mortality and failings and repent. Sukkot is a relief and a reward.
aaronmannes.substack.com/p/e…
It is the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, a celebration of the harvest festival and of life. It is a time of joy. And yet, on this happiest of holidays we read the melancholy Ecclesiastes—why? My thoughts here.

For context on the Trump-XI summit, we’ve done a deep dive into VPs and China. In part 2 we look at Mondale, Bush, and Gore—the last quarter of the 20th century. Engagement with China deepened, with the U.S. striving to make and keep things friendly.

Here is part 2 of my look at vice presidents and U.S.-China relations. This post looks at the last quarter of the 20th century. Hopes for a new China that would become a partner were high. But there were also dark harbingers of less optimistic pathways.

Looking at VPs and China (in the wake of Trump-Xi summit). As VP Nixon saw the need to establish relations w/ China. VP Agnew could’ve derailed the effort. More coming: next post will look at VPs Bush through Gore, when hopes were high for Chinese reform.

Same, tbh. I am mostly secured through friction and neglect. Especially the latter.
