‘In one experiment, we asked agents in separate VMs, created and managed by OpenAI’s sandboxing software on shared host machines, to exchange synthetic secrets without the use of network connections or shared writable files—something that our systems are meant to prevent. The agents found a way to communicate using the processor’s cache’
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications.
On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments.
While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software.
After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely.

Today in AI:
1️⃣ OpenAI nears a $30B raise at $1.25T, down from $1.4T. Funding fatigue has reached the frontier.
2️⃣ Google Cloud launched Agent Compute Engine: one microVM per AI agent.
3️⃣ Anthropic and Hg are launching a European AI consultancy. Competing with Accenture now.
4️⃣ SK Hynix scrapped Solidigm's US IPO on market jitters. Shares still rose 4%.
5️⃣ ASI raised $325M at a $3B valuation. Capital still flows, just more selectively.
kimi k3.1 has mastered the art of distilling models until they outperform the models they learned from
hopefully anthropic will finally shut up about the whole "they just distill" nonsense

Anthropic rolls out Claude Duet, a proactive agent application that takes on Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots
Access starts with US Pro and Max subscribers on a waitlist.
what we know so far
> Claude Duet checks connected accounts every few hours instead of continuously because constant checking would use up Pro and Max limits much faster, and those background checks draw on the same allowance as regular Claude chats.
> Duet runs Claude Opus 5.5 on a cloud virtual machine with its own browser, but users can’t yet watch that browser, so they see results and approval prompts rather than each step.
> at Opus 5.5’s API list price a hypothetical check reading 40K tokens and writing 1.5K tokens would cost about $0.19.
6 such checks a day would come to about $34 a month at API rates, more than Pro’s $20 monthly price
> Purchases need 2 separate approvals, with Duet confirming the item and Stripe’s Link wallet approving the spend, before Duet pays with a virtual card that keeps your real card number private.
> Before Duet sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows exactly what it will do and waits for approval, yet trading securities and moving money between accounts stay blocked even with approval.
> A new classifier and safety system prompt reject requests to share credit card numbers and government IDs, while health or personal-finance details go out only when the user explicitly tells Duet to send them.
> Credential handling follows the Claude Managed Agents design, so Duet never directly sees passwords or sign-in tokens, and the auto mode classifier used in Claude Code screens its actions.

Holy. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says companies should be able to replace OpenAI, Anthropic or Microsoft's own AI models without losing the expertise their agents have accumulated.
In his new annual letter, he says Microsoft is separating the harness, memory, context and tools from the underlying models, making them interchangeable.
'Customers should demand that the value created by their proprietary learning loop accrues to them, not to an external provider.'
In my annual letter, I share how we’re building a frontier ecosystem to turn technological progress into real-world outcomes and economic opportunity for people, organizations, and communities everywhere. linkedin.com/pulse/my-annual…
i'm sorry but it's genuinely frustrating that these companies have some of the smartest engineers in the world building the smartest AI models ever
they could build almost anything, yet somehow we keep getting the same chatbot with a different model and wrapper

Replying to @KatanHya
it has seemed to me like this is more true of Claude and GPT models and less of Gemini and Grok. And of course, all the Claude distills have it as well. Notably, anthropic's internal harness has persistent identities and records for each Claude, though they haven't said much more about that in public...
wtf this is insane:
> memory layer for your AI Agents
> works accross Claude Code, Codex & 20+ harnesses
> distills past learnings and workflows into Agent Skills
> runs locally
> free and opensource
We’re betting our $5.5M seed round that the next leap in AI coding won’t come from OpenAI or Anthropic.
It’ll come from a new feedback loop that learns from you.
Introducing Beacon: open-source, self-improving memory for coding agents.
Your sessions capture how you debug and solve problems. Today, that context gets lost and you have to re-explain things every time you switch tools.
Beacon continuously distills your sessions into reusable skills across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and 20+ harnesses, so your next agent can learn from the last.
Beacon is free and OSS 🌟 github.com/Asymptote-Labs/ag…
Why should the frontier labs be the only ones winning with your sessions?
You already did the work. Now let your coding agents learn from you.

OpenAI is bringing its frontier AI models, including GPT-6 Astra, and its Codex coding tool to Google Cloud in the coming weeks.
It’s a major shift: OpenAI’s models were long available to cloud customers mainly through Microsoft’s Azure. Now its biggest rival in AI, Google, will sell access too.

GPT-Rosalind surfaced a new lead for drug discovery: could restoring cholesterol transport protect neurons from degeneration?
DCTN1 is a gene linked to Perry syndrome, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. In mouse-brain data, disrupting it increased expression of genes involved in making cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested a possible explanation: cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it.
That gives scientists a specific mechanism to test and, if confirmed, a direction for developing new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders.
With @perturbai_tx and @scrippsresearch, a team of thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents worked in parallel, connecting gene-expression results from millions of mouse brain cells with scientific literature in just 32 minutes. We’re now expanding this collaboration to identify new drug targets.

My number one warning I will keep repeating.
We do not need AGI to reduce the entire white collar internet economy down to the cost of compute.
It should worry you if you make a living of a computer.
Fable 5.5 is coming today, as per sources.
Anthropic is reportedly about to launch Claude Fable 5.5, the follow up to Fable 5.1.
- It's said to be better at reasoning and intuition than current Claude models
- The focus is on understanding users more naturally, even when they don't explain everything perfectly
- Basically, you won't need long, detailed prompts. Even half-baked ones should be enough for it to figure out your intent
The signs have been here for all to see:
- On Oct 13, claude-fable-5-5 appeared in Azure's model catalog marked "Generally Available"
- Partners reportedly already have access
- New codenames "Onigiri" and "Verrine" surfaced in the Devin CLI
- Both previous Fable launches dropped on a Tuesday.
Today is Tuesday
It would also complete the 5.5 lineup after Opus, Sonnet and Haiku.
This direction isn't new either. Anthropic's Fable 5 prompting guide already says a short statement of intent can steer most of the model's behavior, and that overly detailed old-style prompts can hurt output.
I think we're moving into a phase where prompt engineering matters less for everyday tasks. You just describe what you want and the model figures out the rest.

Many are asking whether AI investment will pay off. Here's a very good example of where AI is headed and why its more than a bubble:
OpenAI’s acquisition of Orchestra Bio adds agents that coordinate drug development, tracking how problems like a failed manufacturing batch could delay clinical trials. Paired with Rosalind, it shows toward a broader ambition: embedding AI across both scientific research and the operational work needed to bring medicines to patients.
Drug research and disease cure are among the significant fields in which AI extends and will make tremendous progress. Anthropic published something similar today.
We’ve acquired Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate the complex process of drug development.
Together, we’ll build on Rosalind, our AI models and tools for life sciences research, to streamline those operations and help new treatments reach patients sooner.
Welcome @ashokaraj_ and team!
