The useful test: can you get the answer quickly enough that your attention stays on the flight, the weather, and the decision?
Private pilot oral prep tip: answer weather and performance questions like a pilot, not a glossary.
Better flow:
1. What is the condition?
2. What risk does it create?
3. What calculation or source checks it?
4. What would make you delay, divert, or cancel?
Density altitude rule of thumb: if the day is hotter, higher, heavier, or the runway is shorter, do the performance math before the engine starts.
The number is not the goal. The decision is:
- enough runway?
- acceptable climb?
- clear abort point?
- personal margin?
That is where E6B math earns its keep.
Private pilot oral tip: don’t study weather as definitions. Study it as a go/no-go decision.
A DPE wants to hear: weather picture → risk → personal limits → decision + divert trigger.
