I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Imagine the sheer unscientific arrogance of thinking that unilaterally setting 'climate targets' for Britain - which makes less than 1% of the world's carbon emissions - will have the slightest effect on the world's climate Or to think that any other country would be daft enough to follow our lead.

I’m not even interested in climate change. I was a gay rights activist/writer for most of my career. I just don’t think it’s right to let the oil industry kill us all, gay or otherwise, and am still suprised so few people even talk or post about it.

Chris Packham and Zac Polanski are right. The climate crisis may be the thing that derails @andyburnham because as far as I can see almost no one in parliament understands the climate crisis. Almost none of them understand the risk of food shortages. If that happens, the public rage is going to be off the scale. It won’t be fair. They’ll blame whoever is in power.

Hyde Park, London. Known for it’s large, beautiful grassy areas is today looking more like a dessert following well over a month with no rainfall & frequent high temperatures since May.

Britain must prepare for El Niño. The UK is built for a climate which no longer exists. We need to grow more of our own food and prepare towns and workplaces for extreme heat. When climate shocks hit, public power must protect people so profiteers can't exploit crises.
