ALT AUTOMAPIC is a Twitter bot created by the Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library to help you (and us!) explore our collections. Every hour, it will choose a random object from our Digital Collections portal, then choose a random zoomed-in excerpt of that object, and tweet to this account. There are countless beautiful and interesting details in our tens of thousands of maps that we hope we’ll bring to light in this project. At the same time, there are also cases where historic documents may contain hurtful or objectionable language or imagery. If you see a randomly-selected image that you think deserves more context and interpretation, please send us a tweet @bplmaps, or an email at [email protected]. Of course, you can always let us know if you see an image that is particularly fascinating or significant, as well. Enjoy this serendipitous ramble through our collections!
