Last night I dreamt I was exploring a neighborhood in my childhood hometown. While poking about I discovered a sprawling fenced area behind one of the houses, the end of which was beyond what I could see. The fenced area was filled with gigantic ramshackled buildings and structures constructed of massive timbers of driftwood with other drift wood randomly strewn about the ground. I had a deep desire to climb the fence and explore this tremendous place of overwhelming beauty but I was stopped by the thought that I needed to ask the owner's permission. I went to the house that sat in front of the fenced place and inside found a workshop full of foreign students busy with various tasks. I located the owner, a grumpy old man, and asked him for permission to explore the fenced land. He refused but it was clear it pained him to do so, instead, as if in consolation, he offered me a very well paying job. Crying heavily, I begged him repeatedly and rejected the job offer, which I desperately needed, saying I would only do it should he allow me to enter.
After the dream ended it occured to me that perhaps that mysterious land of driftwood was the land of the dead.
