Labour and the Tories are not confused about the numbers. They are playing them.
Low fertility means fewer workers per pensioner. In the mid-90s Britain had about 4 people of working age for every person 65+.
That 4:1 “support ratio” is the quiet constraint behind pensions, the NHS and the Treasury’s forecasts. With births around 1.4 per woman, that ratio falls on its own — toward roughly 2.4 by 2050 if you do not import people. Two workers per pensioner means higher taxes, later retirement, thinner services, or all three.
For Brits that is the bill.
There is another way to keep 4:1: bring in enough working-age migrants, forever.
The UN’s 2000 replacement-migration worksheet spelled it out. Holding the UK ratio at ~4.1 took on the order of 60 million net migrants by 2050, a country of ~136 million, majority post-1995 arrivals and their children. That scenario is politically unsayable and demographically unstable — migrants age too, so the inflow has to keep rising. So ministers never cite it.
They run a shorter version instead. ONS population in, OBR forecast out. Extra working-age bodies lift headline GDP and the five-year fiscal path. Vacancies in care, NHS and hospitality get visas instead of wages, training or getting natives off inactivity.
Manifestos say “control.” The model still needs the headcount. That is why both parties talk borders and deliver inflows. The dishonesty is the gap.
Reform and Lowe are not running that game. They treat the 4:1 trap as a reason to raise British births and cut the stock — not to substitute the population to protect a ratio.
That is the split.
The first two parties will not tell you the ratio they are managing. They will also not tell you that managing it with migration means you do not keep the same country.

For decades, millions of working-class men and women have been told to shut up and accept low wages, decaying infrastructure, failing public services and an establishment that treats their concerns with utter contempt.
They have watched their communities rapidly transform in front of their eyes, changing beyond ANY recognition.
They have witnessed successive governments lose control of Britain's borders, while being told that objecting to that somehow makes them racist, bigoted, ‘disgusting’…
One of ‘that lot’.
Following the Dover protest against illegal immigration today, that vile contempt was on display once again.
The local Labour MP dismissed the protestors as ‘idiots’, and to ‘get a job’.
Farage called the protest ‘disgusting’, his contempt for these concerned patriots was quite incredible.
That attitude from the political class is EXACTLY why so many working-class people feel politically abandoned. Why millions simply do not engage with the political process, at all.
You can dissuade disruption without sneering at the underlying concerns of people who believe their borders, communities and country have been utterly failed. Broken and betrayed.
For too long, Westminster has demanded that working class communities absorb the consequences of its decisions - particularly on immigration. Labour, Conservative, Reform politicians. They opened the floodgates, they enabled the invasion. May, Jenrick, Patel, Mahmood, Sunak, Braverman, Starmer, Burnham, Boris Johnson.
They are ALL to blame.
Our rotten political class should spend less time abusing those who are angry and considerably more time asking itself why they are so furious in the first place.
But there is finally a serious political party that will fight for the working class. Unapologetically and without fear.
Restore Britain. And I am proud to lead it.

WHO actually delivers it — name the department, not the breakfast sofa.
COST — the number and who pays. “Funded by cancelling X” still costs you X.
ENFORCEMENT — what happens to the person who ignores it. No consequence = theatre.
SUNSET — when it dies. If there’s no kill-date, it becomes furniture.
LOSERS — who gets poorer or less free if it “works.” They never put that in the clip.
If it fails two of five, it’s content, not government.

Truro Knife Attack: Free Speech Shut Down in Plain Sight
The Facts:
• A multi-person knife attack hits Truro, Cornwall in broad daylight
• Police immediately warn the public: stop talking online
• Local news shuts the comments
• Discussion banned. Questions treated as a threat.
Free speech is not under attack, it is being strangled in plain sight.
A 'large bladed weapon' was swung in the middle of Truro yesterday. The police told the public to stop sharing “speculative” information online because it might prejudice the investigation. At the same time Cornwall Live simply switched the comments off.
This is how free speech dies in Britain.
Not with a dramatic ban or a midnight raid, but with calm, reasonable-sounding instructions: don’t discuss it, don’t speculate, don’t let ordinary people talk about violence on their own high street.
Every restriction is sold as temporary, necessary, protective. Twenty years of these “necessary” steps have left us here: a serious public-order incident and the first institutional response is to close the conversation.
Repeated use of that power, combined with media comment lockdowns, steadily trains the public that certain topics (especially those involving different cultures and public safety) are too dangerous to discuss openly.
If the authorities refuse to be transparent, they leave us no choice but to speculate amongst ourselves.
The public’s right to talk about what is happening in their own town must not be treated as the greater danger. When the official reaction to a 'large bladed weapon' attack is to silence the streets rather than confront the problem, free speech is no longer fading in the background. It is being extinguished in plain sight. We should be very, very worried.
