I thought our story about Nanay Sita was over after the documentary aired. For months after, her neighbor kept sending updates—some hopeful, others not.
I never planned to write about them again, but the story was difficult to put away.

The recent school shootings in Tacloban and Zamboanga raised difficult questions about young people, violence, and the worlds they inhabit online.
I went into this story with a lot of questions, and came away with even more to think about. Some of what we found was new to me too, and I think it’s something more of us should be aware of.

If the honorable congressman thinks those remarks belong in the halls of Congress, one can only imagine what passes for normal conversation in private, especially when women aren’t in the room.
What followed was even worse: intellectual dishonesty and refusal to engage with criticism. The familiar playbook of strongman politics that seems to be spreading everywhere these days.
