I watched a quarterback destroy an offense because he did not know the offense. Not a bad kid. Not a bad arm. He just did not know what he was running. Whose fault is that - his, or the coaches? #youthfootball

Bring an extra blocker and you gained nothing. They bring an extra defender. Now you're playing power football in a phone booth with the one group on your team that cannot win there. #youthfootball

Do you have one fast kid? Just one. That's the entry fee for this whole offense, and he can be the smallest player you have. Not a stud back. Not an arm. One kid at full speed before anybody's touched him. #youthfootball

Why do some coaches refuse to ask for help, even when everyone can see they’re struggling? As coaches, we’re so focused on helping our players succeed that sometimes we forget we need help too. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of leadership.

What's your record right now? Drop it below. The teams still looking for a win are not short on effort. Those coaches are out there every night. They're short on a plan that fits the players they have. Think I've got that wrong? Say so. #youthfootball

Beat the clock. 10 minutes, quarterback. Ball is out in two seconds or the rep doesn't count. A small line can hold anybody for two seconds. Nobody holds for four. Stop building a pass game that asks them to. #youthfootball

No offensive line? Quit asking them to win. You need the correct offense for the players you actually have. I can help. Not a theory. Years of Saturdays, run by teams that got out-sized every week. It still moved the chains. #youthfootball

Watched a youth team run the SAME 5 plays all first half without getting a single first down. 🤦‍♂️ If you’re an OC, creativity matters. Read the defense. Make adjustments. Give your players a chance to succeed. If it’s not working, CHANGE IT UP. 🏈 #YouthFootball #CoachChains

Is inside zone your base play? Depends on one thing: your line against theirs. Bigger - base. Even - base. Combo, then climb. Smaller - changeup. Most coaches install it first no matter what they have. That's backwards. #youthfootball

Look at them, and put them where you think they best fit. That is the job. It is not a vote. The expensive mistake: the big kid who is not a lineman. Some of those kids are your best athlete. #youthfootball

Honest answer, coaches. Can your line move anybody off the ball? If it is no, the fix is not the weight room. It is where you put the ball. #youthfootball

Most winning coaches are not coaching much. They got the big kids. Agree, or tell me I am wrong. #youthfootball

Your five against the five you play Saturday. Smaller, even, or bigger? It is the first question I ask any coach, because it decides every other one. #youthfootball

Inside shoulder fitting. 12 minutes, offensive line. Score it on one question and say it out loud every rep: did he cross your face, yes or no. That is the only question. #youthfootball

Motion every snap. Motion only when it matters and you've told them the play. If the motion only shows up when the ball goes with it, the defense will figure that out. #youthfootball

Everybody installs inside zone first. If your line is small, don't. It's your changeup. Call it once they've widened out, and the middle goes soft. The QB has to carry out the fake, or the backside end eats your back. #youthfootball

Tennis balls first. A football forgives a bad pitch. A tennis ball does not forgive anything. Rep the option pitch with tennis balls for six minutes before a football ever touches it. You find out in practice instead of on third down. #youthfootball

Steps 5-6, and the reason. 5. Add the key. Told before each rep to take the QB or sit. 6. Live key, full speed. The QB does not know. Score one thing out loud: right decision, yes or no. Not yards. The decision. The whole drill: coachchains.com

Steps 1-4. Six minutes, no football. 1. Tennis ball pitch, stationary. Underhand, thumbs down, chest high. 2. On the move, holding the four-by-four relationship. 3. Relationship only. Freeze them at the decision. 4. Football, walk speed. Pitch on a coach call, not a read.
