me to see the Eastern Mediterranean in a wider context, and to put in perspective what the team has delivered.
Our region is home to extraordinary people, with incredible resilience. We innovate in the way we care for and respond to humanitarian emergencies.
For the last month and a half I’ve been listening to different views from around the world on how the WHO of the future can look like.
This Regional committee, as a Prospective Candidate for WHO DG, every conversation I had with Ministers, partners gave me even more insight. I’m grateful to all of them for their advice and support.
I join @DrTedros in thanking the teams from the region to every country responding to complex emergencies, and I look forward to continuing to work with every Member State in our region, and around the world.
The @WHOEMRO Region is home to more conflicts than any other, along with the health and humanitarian emergencies that conflict brings.
Health care itself has come under attack.
@WHO is doing whatever we can to support health systems, health services and health workers, and to deliver health supplies.
Our country teams in Gaza, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, Afghanistan and elsewhere have stayed and delivered, often at great personal risk.
But the one thing the region needs most is the one thing we cannot deliver as WHO: peace.
The best medicine is peace. #EMRC73
