for the past few months, I often came across the argument of web3 being dead.
i think below apoorav has highlighted in a very simple n crucial way as to why it feels so.
If you’re coming to web3 conferences looking for a job, I have some bad news.
the industry has changed a lot over the last 2 - 3 years. back in 2021, every protocol wanted devs, community managers, bd, ecosystem leads and more.
Since everyone was in the launching phase, everyone needed users and hence needed someone making noise on twitter.
The market is a lot smaller now, the other day, i was talking to someone from Cardano who’s also worked with several L2s in the past and we got into what the protocols that survived are focused on now.
the answer was pretty clear "Institutions"
the conversation has moved from “how do we get more crypto users?” to “how do we get businesses and institutions to actually use this?”
That meant stablecoins, payments, compliance, custody, RWAs, institutional sales, finance and infrastructure.
And ofc marketing looks completely different when your customer is a bank instead of a crypto Degen on X.
Marketers and devs are still very much needed, but being into crypto isn’t enough on its own. If you’re looking for the same jobs people chased in 2021, you might miss the opportunities opening up around those needs.
