Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia.
Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won.
Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history
You read the comments under posts like this (or anything that critiques conservative ideology, racism, misogyny, Islamophobia, transphobia etc.) and there’s an army of bots spewing opinions meant to discredit inclusive values. Who’s deploying these bots??

Egypt is the most revealing case of all.
Ancient Egypt, with its pyramids, its philosophy, its mathematical precision, its medicine, its legal systems, its art that still stops people in museum halls, is acknowledged as one of the great civilizations of human history.
And for most of Western academic history, it was also systematically, carefully, persistently de-Africanized.
Ancient Egyptians were depicted as lighter than the evidence suggests.
The obvious geographical and cultural connections to the rest of Africa were minimized.
The Nile Valley civilizations that predated the dynastic period were underdiscussed.
Cheikh Anta Diop spent his career arguing that ancient Egypt was an African civilization.
Not Mediterranean. Not racially ambiguous. Not a separate category inserted between "real" Africa and "real" civilization.
African.
The reaction from Western academia was not engagement.
It was dismissal. It was decades of institutional resistance. It was the particular fury of a field that had built its understanding of the ancient world on the careful, necessary, structurally load-bearing separation of Egypt from the continent it sits on.
Because if Egypt is African, then the sentence "Africa had no civilization before Europe arrived" doesn’t just need revision.
It becomes incoherent.
Not just false, but the precise inversion of the truth.
And not just about one dynasty or one period but about the foundational story of Western civilization itself, which drew substantially from Egyptian knowledge in mathematics, medicine, architecture, philosophy.
Which means Western civilization did not bring knowledge to Africa.
It learned from it.
The mummies are still there.
The DNA studies have complicated every clean narrative.
Diop’s work has been increasingly vindicated by genetic and archaeological evidence.
The resistance continues anyway.
But the instinct, the deep structural instinct to separate the civilization you want to celebrate from the continent you needed to be empty, that instinct shaped the field for generations.
You cannot claim the pyramids and also claim the continent that built them had no history.
You cannot do both with a straight face.
They tried anyway.

ALT Pharaoh Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II (reigned c. 2055–2004 BCE). An African king of the Nile Valley who reunified Egypt and founded the Middle Kingdom more than 4,000 years ago. This is not a modern reconstruction. It is an original ancient Egyptian statue, discovered at Deir el-Bahari in 1900. Long before European colonialism, Africa had already produced one of the greatest civilizations in human history. Egypt was African. Its pharaohs were African. Its history is African history. Let's mention emergency response. One candidate reduced police response times from 26 minutes to 12 minutes. One candidate reduced 911 operator delay from up to 12 minutes to 3 seconds. Mayor Chow has been effective where it matters.

Brad Bradford doesn't want you to know firearm discharges and shootings are the lowest they have been since 2016. He preys on your insecurity and stokes fear. This is irresponsible leadership.

60% of Torontonians are concerned about Brad Bradford’s plan to open our drinking water up for privatization.
Our water should never be for sale. You'll pay the price. Higher bills. Less safety.
As your Mayor, I will protect our drinking water.

Homelessness skyrocketed while Bradford Bradford was John Tory’s right-hand man on council.
It has begun to decline under Olivia Chow.
Toronto, if you want to change the homelessness epidemic, you need to change the mayor.
Enough of Olivia Chow. Vote for Brad Bradford.

Thanks for the bulletin, Jacob. Cool entry into a Toronto issue since Tent City (look it up)
You may not be aware of this, but many of us fought during ten years of austerity budgets in Toronto for protection of unhoused ppl and increases to social services funding
which did not happen until this Mayor, and while still not adequate,
homelessness rates increased nearly everywhere else in Ontario in 2025,
but they dropped significantly in Toronto.
To potential supporters of @oliviachow:
Today is the first chilly day of the year in Toronto.
It is 7:45 AM and I’m on the TTC and there are three poor unhoused souls languishing on two separate cars on the trains.
They need help.
No one is helping them.
People, (mostly marathon runners) plug their noses and move away.
Whose job is it to help them? There are many, but chief among them is the CEO of the city.
That’s the mayor.
Olivia Chow hasn’t taken transit in three years. So it’s no wonder this goes on without end.
We need change.
Please vote for Brad Bradford @BradMBradford for mayor.

Is it too much to ask for publishers of articles advocating for cycling routes on secondary roads in Toronto to require their authors to submit a proposed alternative?
@RDiManno, is this the sort of secondary route you're thinking as an alternative to the Yonge Street lanes?
