Today, I’m honored to join Andrew Huberman for a deep conversation about how children learn and how we can redesign school around what science makes possible.
Just one year ago, I recorded my first podcast with @patrick_oshag on Invest Like the Best.
Since then, word of mouth and demand for Alpha School have exploded.
We’re now bringing Alpha to 50 communities across the country, each made possible by founding families determined to build a better education for their children.

Texas Sports Academy is launching the nation’s first flag football school for girls.
Flag football is the fastest-growing high school sport in the country. LA28 is on the horizon. The NIL era is here.
Opening this August in Frisco, TX. This is where the future of girls flag football is being built:

Sports is the most underrated talent development system in America.
- Harvard/NBER tracked 400,000 Ivy grads over 25 years. Athletes earned 3.4% more and reached more senior positions, even after controlling for school, major, and industry.
- Ohio State: Adults who played youth sports scored significantly higher on grit. Adults who quit scored lower.
- Gallup: 42% of former college athletes are “highly engaged” at work vs. 38% of non-athletes.
This is the thesis behind Texas Sports Academy. Sports develop winners in life, not just on the field

Elite-level athletic analysis used to require a lab. Now it fits in your pocket.
This is Daito Manabe's work. Rhizomatiks in Tokyo.
He's the rare artist-engineer operating at the exact seam of computer vision, AR, and human sensing. He built AR for the Rio 2016 closing ceremony. Bjork's VR concerts. Perfume's Tokyo Dome laser shows. Drone choreography. EEG-driven music.
And he's pointed all of it at a fencing blade.
A sabre tip moves at 30 m/s, too fast for a coach's eye to reconstruct the path. 100 years of fencing coaching has been half-guessing at what the blade actually did.
Before Rhizomatiks, tracking something this fast required putting reflective dots on the object, surrounding a room with a bunch of high-speed cameras, and running it all through a six-figure system (Vicon rigs start at $50K, Hawk-Eye installations run $100K per court). You could not do it on a fencing blade bc the blade is too thin, moves too fast, and flexes mid-swing.
Rhizomatiks did it with no dots. No sensors. Just cameras and a deep learning model trained to find a sword tip a few pixels wide, in real time, against a chaotic arena background. They debuted it at the 2019 All Japan Championship and ran it again at the Tokyo Olympics. Nobody had shipped that before.
Five years later the same class of computer vision runs on a phone. HomeCourt reads shot arc for $8/month. MediaPipe is free and open source.
Youth sports development is still gated by geography and income. The kid with access to a $200/hr biomechanics coach gets a real feedback loop. Everyone else gets a dad with a phone and a hunch.
Rhizomatiks proved the vision stack works on a sabre tip moving at 30 m/s. A baseball swing is a slower problem. The hard part is already solved. Someone just has to ship it for parents.
At Texas Sports Academy, we're building the apps that put a D1-level coach in every parent's pocket.

Opening Day at our first Gymnastics School!
Using the Timeback program, our students crush academics by 12pm.
And our students study in pomodoros: 30mins on, 10mins off.
For study breaks, they sprint to their playground, doing flips and rope climbs to unwind
Texas Sports Academy Gymnastics coming soon!
These elite middle school gymnasts currently attend traditional school from 8am-3pm, then train daily from 4-8pm.
This means:
- They get home past 8pm five days week
- They still have homework after they’re back home
- They’re less energized during gymnastics training
But with our Texas Sports Academy opening soon, these athletes will now:
- Crush all their academics and training by 4pm
- Learn twice as much as before, with no homework, more family dinners
- Have better energy for training, best position themselves to go D1
More videos on this school coming soon 💯

Texas Sports Academy x Dynamic Prep coming in January!
We're partnering with Jermaine O'Neal and the #1 team in the nation, Dynamic Prep, to create the best middle school in DFW for serious athletes.
We've already created an amazing facility. We remodeled a traditional school to turn it into a D1 athlete-producing factory.
Dynamic Prep plays there already:
- We've hosted their Faze games in the OTE league
- This gym is already becoming one of the most exciting places in Texas to watch elite athletes hoop
The facility has a state-of-the-art weight room, gym, film room, and podcast room.
But here's what really sets us apart, our 4 Commitments:
1. Double Your D1 Odds: Every student gets an athletic assessment and personalized skill development plan. We focus on fundamentals that other programs ignore... fixing weaknesses, not just playing to strengths.
2. Long-Term Athletic Development: We train well-rounded, holistic athletes through speed & agility training, balance, coordination, and LTAD principles. All our coaches have sent athletes to D1 programs.
3. Learn 2x in 2 Hours: Powered by Alpha School's proven model, we use personalized learning, mastery-based learning, and learning science principles so students crush academics and training by 4pm - with no homework and more family dinners.
4. Kids Love School: We make sports fun again. No burnout from excessive competitive games. Instead, we focus on skill development, life skills (nutrition, sports psychology, financial literacy, public speaking), and teaching kids to build their audience early.
This is the future of elite athletics.

I’m so grateful for AI.
Spinning up an AWS backend (Lambdas/S3/IAM) used to take hours. Today, with Opus 4.5 + AWS CLI, I saved at least 2 hours of boring setup work.
And having an LLM a swipe away with voice-to-text & instant response makes learning effortless.
This video is the usual workflow of any AI dev. Building & learning in the age of AI is so fun.

Parent: You will never get my kid to focus on academics for 2 hours a day.
Texas Sports Academy coach: If he does, he can play basketball 🏀 all afternoon.
Parent: Oooh, that would totally get him to lock in.

A motivated student is 90% of the solution to education.

Your kids' favorite athletes didn't get great by accident.
They wrote it down. They visualized it. They built systems around it.
• Michael Phelps - Started writing goals at age 11, posts them in his closet
• Emmitt Smith - Famous for writing and hitting 22 specific career goals
• Katie Ledecky - Keeps detailed journals of practices and wellness metrics
• Simone Biles - Writes down yearly goals with her mother
• Venus Williams - Visualization by walking empty major courts
• Kobe Bryant - Big goals broken into daily 1% improvements
• Arnold Schwarzenegger - Clear vision + specific, measurable goals
• Muhammad Ali - Vivid fight visualizations + spoken affirmations
• Steph Curry - Pre-game visualization ritual + 6-step mental preparation process
• LeBron James - Constant visualization + photographic memory for plays + clear verbal goal commitment
The method varies. The discipline doesn't.
When Shohei Ohtani was a high school freshman, he created a detailed "dream sheet" with one central goal: to be the #1 draft pick for 8 NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) teams.
It was a 64-cell roadmap based on a framework called the Harada Method.
Here's exactly what Shohei did 👇
1. First, some history.... The Harada Method was created by Takashi Harada, a Japanese junior high track coach. He took a team ranked last out of 380 schools and, using his system, turned them into the #1 team in the region within 3 years. They held that top spot for the next 6 years.
2. You start by placing your main goal in the center of an 8x8 grid. For Ohtani, this was "be the #1 draft pick."
3. Next, you identify 8 critical supporting pillars needed to achieve that goal. These surround the main goal.
Ohtani's 8 pillars were:
• Body
• Control
• Sharpness
• Speed
• Pitch Variance
• Personality
• Karma/Luck
• Mental Toughness
4. You then break down each of those 8 pillars into 8 smaller, actionable tasks or daily routines.
This fills out the entire 64-cell grid, turning a massive dream into a concrete, daily action plan.
To improve his karma, he listed tangible actions like:
• Showing Respect to Umpires
• Picking up trash
• Being positive
• Being someone people want to support
5. The method goes far deeper than just technical skills. It forces you to analyze your weaknesses and build confidence. It also has a highlight on service to others, emphasizing that humility and contributing to your community are essential for personal success.
6. The key to the system is daily execution and accountability. Once the 64-cell chart is complete, you turn the tasks and habits into a daily diary and a "Routine Check Sheet." It’s designed to transform abstract intentions into a measurable, daily practice.

So inspiring to see all these creators building ways to implement the ideas in Arpan’s post.
We’ll see if the Alpha School students can bring a uniquely teenage angle this week.

Was there to guide a disabled athlete (autistic) — he did great!
This meant setting the pace, grabbing water & gels, and non-stop cheers.

Here’s Joe explaining what we’re building at Texas Sports Academy
We’re on our way to 1,200 schools
This is the definitive conversation on Alpha School with @jliemandt, who is the school’s principal and backer.
What if kids could learn in two hours a day, test in the top 1% nationally, spend their afternoons mastering other great skills, AND love school more than vacation?
What sounds impossible is already happening at Alpha. If you are a parent like me, it’s impossible not to wonder how to make sure your kids will benefit from this enormous innovation.
We explore everything in exhaustive detail—the learning science, the role of software and AI, the central role of motivation, the challenges of scaling to ALL kids, and more.
Joe is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history, who has now decided to devote his next two decades to ushering in a new era of education. I hope this becomes a historically important episode.
