Mind boggling to me that I can make a thing faster and there's always people that ask "but why?" What kind of mentality is that? The pursuit of excellence does not need justification. Also, I find in so many cases, we can't know the impact of an improvement until we do it.
For example, one I've talked about before: Ghostty's high IO throughput has enabled terminal program (emulator and TUI) fuzzing at a speed thats incomparably fast to prior solutions. This has resulted in upstream patches to resolve issues in popular projects like btop, tmux, and more.
Speed enabled that anecdotally example that lifted the tides of adjacent communities that don't rely on Ghostty technology at all. I didn't predict this.
Make things better because they can be better and let the results naturally play out.

hacked bitnet for finetuning, ended up with a 74mb file. It talks fine at 198 tokens per second on just 1 cpu core. Basically witchcraft.

As you know, my explorations of the Gen AI space is ultimately all about creative control. You should be able to shape the generative matter using all your artistic sensibilities and your aesthetic sense.
OpenAI's Sora is a huge technological leap, but what excites me the most about it is the modalities where it depends on input other than text alone. Such as video to video. Here's an example of how Sora can change an input video.

At border control today, an immigration officer asked me what I do. I told her I make generative art and explained a bit. Another officer looked over and asked “is that NFT?”
I answered no, and started talking about gen art history (elevator-pitch version 😆). They let me pass.
Hours after this conversation, I am still thinking about how NFTs have pumped new blood into this genre. They (at least) get the conversation started.

JAN 30. / Shaders.
I already and regularly use shaders on different projects. That's is really an amazing tool for generative artists.
"Volute", released on @artblocks_io on december 2022, was created with shaders.

Genuary 29. Signed Distance Functions.
This is new to me. Just messing around and learning the basics.
Also trying to get used to 'shaders', which I don't usually use and I still don't feel comfortable working with them.
