The election is over, and the work for Vancouver is what matters now. I'm honoured to lead Mayor-elect Pete Fry’s @PtFry transition and help his team get off to a strong start. When the mayor succeeds, Vancouver succeeds.

It is not a declaration of war.
I’m not sure when both the right and the left decided to start throwing these terms around but it’s irresponsible, dangerous, and not productive in the least.
I watched @TheRealKeean talk about going to war, now I’m seeing Grand Chief Stewart Phillip do the same.
This is legislation, and it must reflect the expectations of voters - that’s how democracy works. British Columbians voted for the BC Conservatives and part of their campaign was to repeal it, and citizens voted for it.
If after an election, you don’t like the result and the policies - you shouldn’t start viewing that as a declaration of war.
It’s democracy in action.
If my members voted for a new Chief, with a different vision, I don’t get to call that an act an act of war - I respect the results and seek to work with the new leader on their path.

Over the past five weeks, I’ve gone to dozens of pressers and election-related events — almost exclusively via public transit 🚉
It helps to live downtown, I know, but I’m still pretty proud of that.
Now let’s improve our system so in 2030 I won’t have to use a car at all!

A thought for all the campaign staff on the BC NDP, Con and Green teams.
Politics is a volatile and unpredictable business. 8 weeks ago none of this was imaginable. And those in government had “secure” jobs.
Things change on a dime and you all pivoted into campaign, left your families for an intense battle over competing visions.
And now some will lose jobs and others will gain them. It can seem unfair and sudden (and it is) but that’s what the people decide.
Know that even though you are all doing political jobs - you too are public servants. We don’t say that enough but it’s true.
Our democracy depends on well functioning political parties and the staff who make that happen.
Thank you all for your service, whether you won or lost.

First of all it was refreshing to hear the leaders of each party thank each other for the hard work they did. It was nice to hear @Dave_Eby and @LDoerkson being respectful to each other in their speeches. This election was essentially the equivalency of a mass drunk text for B.C.

How rare is an interim leader winning an election?
I could only find one precedent.
Not just in Canada - in all Westminster countries at the national or provincial/state levels.
Searched UK, Australia, NZ.
Just found one.

Tremendous thanks to the absolutely stellar elections officers of @ElectionsBC who were amazing as my parents voted today. Curbside balloting for disabled voters. Clear, patient + courteous. The best of democracy. Here's dad right after excersizing his franchise. @AparnaKurl

Obama: John McCain. I don't want to over romanticize our relationship. John was conservative to put it mildly. He ran against me in 2008 and talked about me on the campaign trail. You know what, he understood that some values transcend party. He believed an honest argument and hearing the views of other people. He didn't demonize political opponents. Do you remember at the end of the campaign when a woman at one of his rallies said, you can't vote for that Arab, he's not even a citizen and he said hold on, I have had a lot of disagreements with Senator Obama but I served with him, he is a good man and an honorable man and a patriotic American, shut it down. He knew that if we get in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, democracy can't work. The man had character.
