A different reading would be that liberals/progressives/etc need to start competing for this demog in the places they exist, not the places they wish this demog existed.
The 18-34 demographic shift to me is the most startling. At the risk of painting with a far-too broad brush, it's an entire generation that's trending toward post-literacy — that doesn't read full articles, doesn't read books, gets its information from bits and bobs of video while scrolling. This is true not just of young people, of course, but it's reshaping the political landscape.
So I guess Joe Biden gets to continue in his belief that only he can defeat Donald Trump. And Hilary Clinton gets to reassure herself that her loss was not due to anything about herself personally.
So some silver linings for a couple of Dems.
