Official account of Argon, the stablecoin protected from inflation, insulated from the collapse of fiat-money, and designed to recover from death spirals.

Joined August 2018
Most “stablecoins” are IOUs on fiat/banks, or they're algorithms that die when confidence dies. Argon is different: • protected from inflation • insulated from fiat collapse • designed to recover from death spirals • powered by Bitcoin via Liquid Locking Lock BTC → unlock stable liquidity without selling. Mine from a laptop. No genesis favors. If you hold Bitcoin and/or care about a stablecoin with purchasing power 10 years from now, this is your account.

The amount of Liquid Locked BTC on the Argon Network has grown more than 100% over the last month. Argon’s Restabilization Power (its ability to withstand a death spiral) now stands at a 50:1. This means, based on current circulation, Argon has 50x more BTC than it needs to restabilize. Momentum is building!

One of our biggest economic releases to-date (Mainchain v1.5 and Desktop v2.5) is rolling out tomorrow afternoon. But first, our two founding engineers, @blakebyrnes and @calebjclark, are host a live AMA. Join us at 11 AM EST on our Discord community.

Less than 0.5% of BTC is actively deployed in a way that earns yield. The rest simply sits on-chain earning nothing. Check out this great post by @burning_gard on Argon's Liquid Locking...
What if your Bitcoin could become productive capital without being sold? @argonnetwork Liquid Locking asks a different question: what happens when locked BTC becomes part of the mechanism that stabilizes the liquidity it helps create? Here’s how it works

It’s hard to surpass a @natbrunell interview, and @RaphaZagury is clearly a brilliant guy. But this clip reveals one of the biggest blind spots in how we think about stablecoins. Tether — like every other fiat-backed stablecoin — does not hold its underlying value on-chain. The backing ultimately sits in banks, custodians, and other off-chain financial institutions. That means a fiat-backed stablecoin does not escape the banking system. It simply places another layer on top of it. If the underlying custodial and financial infrastructure fails, the stablecoin is exposed to the same failure. That distinction matters. Argon was designed around the premise that a stablecoin should be capable of surviving a complete collapse of the financial system. It should not depend on the system for its backing. This isn’t a dig at @natbrunell or @RaphaZagury. Both are doing brilliant work in their respective fields. The broader point is that we all have blind spots. We all accept certain assumptions as foundational until someone stops and asks what actually sits behind the curtain.

Our LLB simulator is cool, but the real value is in the actual Liquid Locking. It's live and on the mainnet! Down load the Argon Desktop app to use it: argon.network/desktop-app

A huge shout-out to one of the pioneers of algorithmic stablecoins: Basis. Their brilliant 2017 whitepaper, authored by @nadertheory, @jwaynechen, and @lzdiao, helped shape some of the early thinking at Argon. basis.io/basis_whitepaper_en… The central weakness of Basis’ design was its reliance on endogenous tokens to stabilize the coin. As many critics have pointed out in the years since, if confidence falls far enough, the assets meant to restore stability can instead accelerate a death spiral. Basis raised $133M from some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley (@BainCapVC @GVteam @a16z @lightspeedvp @FoundationCap), but sadly, they never made it to launch. Blake and I started working full-time on Argon in 2018. We quickly realized an endogenous token was the wrong approach, but we couldn’t find a better design. Year after year, we toiled. For some reason, we never quit. Eight years of work brought us to a design built around an asset whose value exists independently of Argon. An asset that had been staring us in the face all along: Bitcoin. The dream that inspired Basis — and inspired us — lives on in Argon.

We just released v2.3.7 of Argon Desktop App. This is a small bug fix release around some reported issues from the community: - Improve Bitcoin lock recovery, history, ratcheting, and fee handling - Improve financial history recovery across app and network upgrades - Fix recovery issues affecting mining, vaulting, and operator setup - Correct cross-chain transfer fee values You can download it here: argon.network/desktop-app We're still working on the UI revamp of Bitcoin Liquid Locking and cross-chain bridgeless transfers. Stay tuned!

There are few things more embarrassing (or more valuable) than watching actual users use your app. It helped Scott Cook build a billion dollar company (myparticipants.medium.com/ho…), and for us... well, over the last two weeks, we've sat with a substantial number of users as they tried to onboard the Argon Desktop app (argon.network/desktop-app). We quickly realized Argon's Liquid Locking is waaaaaaay too complicated. That doesn't work for a stablecoin designed around Liquid Locking as its core stabilization mechanism. @blakebyrnes and I (@calebjclark) are implementing some UI changes which we think will greatly simplify things. Our goal is to have it released sometime this coming weekend. It will also include a major UX overhaul for our cross-chain bridgeless transfers. Stay tuned!
