Beauty and the Beast and Dirty Dancing Star, Jerry Orbach, Passed Away Twenty Two Years Ago; He Would've Turned 91 If He Was Still Us🕯️🎙️ Jerry Orbach gave Disney one of its most charismatic animated characters as Lumière in Beauty and the Beast, filling the enchanted candelabra with warmth, humor, theatrical flair, and an unforgettable singing voice. For television audiences, he was equally beloved as Detective Lennie Briscoe in Law & Order, a role he carried for years with dry wit and a seasoned, unmistakably New York presence. His career also stretched through Dirty Dancing, Mrder, She Wrote*, crime dramas, comedy, and additional animation. Some of his memorable roles include: • Lumière (Beauty and the Beast) • Detective Lennie Briscoe (Law & Order / Law & Order: Trial by Jury) • Dr. Jake Houseman (Dirty Dancing) • Sa’luk (Aladdin and the King of Thieves) • Harry McGraw (M*rder, She Wrote / The Law & Harry McGraw) • Zachary Foxx (The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers) • Detective Gus Levy (Prince of the City) • Charlie Pegler (Brewster’s Millions) • Jack Rosenthal (Crimes and Misdemeanors) • Nicholas DeFranco (F/X) • Dr. Christopher Gregor (Universal Soldier) • Captain Ronnie Donziger (Out for Justice) • Glen O’Brien (The Golden Girls) • Lieutenant Garber (Someone to Watch Over Me) Whether he was lighting up an enchanted castle, investigating the streets of New York, or playing a protective father, Orbach brought warmth, humor, and personality to every role. Happy Birthday in Heaven, Jerry Orbach. Lumière’s charm and Lennie Briscoe’s unmistakable wit continue to keep your extraordinary voice and screen legacy alive. 🕯️🕊️
