Couldn't agree more. Its been true for years. Unfortunately in Bangladesh, the number of women in the workforce has been on the wane. General insecurity, and viral media showing moral policing against women, won't help. Goes to show how fast things can change. For better or worse
The key to #India’s economy? Making women safer. Our @FT Big Read on how women's safety issues - and the undereployment of Indian women - are holding back the world's fifth-largest economy. ft.com/content/eb034596-406d… Reported with @jyots43 via @ft

Foreign writers have thus far refrained from exploring the more troubling undercurrents of the revolution in Bangladesh. It will no doubt become a more common occurrence as the level of intolerance that has emerged becomes more readily apparent. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

You’d have thought RAB’s dismantling was a sure thing. But here we are. Whether people are still afraid of them, the military has made them off-limits, or interim government appreciates their capability -- who knows. Forrest Cookson writes dhakatribune.com/opinion/lon…

Also, this nugget: "The records of the DGFI...should be completely destroyed...It is urgent to destroy this organization in its present form so that future national leaders are not seduced by its capabilities."

Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali, butchered on @PrimeVideo, which seems to be the only platform streaming it in India. Just look at the amount of image cropped because they want to fill the whole screen (Criterion print on the left)

I wrote about the Rohingya for ⁦@USIP⁩ . Of 2.8 million around the world, only 23% still live in Myanmar. Conditions are worst for those in Bangladesh & Myanmar. But comprehensive solutions should also consider the future of the entire community. usip.org/publications/2024/0…

Uff, @ayeshakabir laid it down: “Do the above two paragraphs seem a bit too vitriolic, melodramatic, too bitter, exaggerated, hyperbolic? I kid you not, those accusations and adjectives are like sonnets compared to the actual immensity of their crimes.” en.prothomalo.com/opinion/op…

Great stuff, and I agree with spirit of it, but gosh, I can't envision excluding, what, 30% of the electorate, and it going at all well. I'd like to see the interim govt take up party reform, overseas party leadership -- a non-partisan issue that appears to have broad support.

Some Western brands have unxpectedly incresed sourcing from #Bangladesh even as the country goes through a preiod of political instability. It is too early to tell if this trend will continue, but it is a good sign for what can happen in the near future. tbsnews.net/economy/apparel-…
