Johnny Sins went from working 12 hours a day, six days a week in construction management to becoming one of the most recognizable names in the adult industry and it all started with a suggestion from a girl he knew in high school.
At 20, Johnny Sins was still focused on finishing college and building a normal career. Then a girl he had gone to high school with, who had already entered porn, told him:
“You should come to LA and do porn. You’re perfect for it.”
At the time, he took it as a compliment.
“I was 20 years old. I was like, yeah, whatever. I’m going to finish school and have a career.”
Five years later, he had graduated college, started working in construction management and absolutely hated it.
“I was in construction management and basically worked, you know, 12 hours a day, six a week.”
The idea of porn never completely disappeared either.
“That was always in the back of my head. Her voice was like, ‘You should come to LA and do porn.’”
Then after about a year of working his first job, he reached a breaking point.
“I was like, okay, I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life. I want to do what I want to do.”
So he quit his job, moved to Los Angeles, and decided to pursue porn.
But there was a problem.
The girl who originally suggested it was already out of the business, meaning Johnny had no connections.
And this was 2005–2006.
“There was barely any, if any, social media, so there was really no way to connect with companies like there is today.”
So instead of waiting for an opportunity to find him, he started looking for one himself.
“I just started answering ads back then.”
Craigslist.
That was one of the ways Johnny began finding opportunities in the industry before social media made connecting with companies and audiences much easier.
The craziest part is that a comment he initially treated as nothing more than a compliment eventually became the idea that changed his entire career.
“I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life. I want to do what I want to do.”
And that decision completely changed where his life was headed.
