Introducing our newest game: @dartwords🎯
Word games are a staple in my family. Today we live pretty far apart, so we compete in Wordle and Spelling Bee (my dad always gets Genius — very annoying). But our love of word games started when we were kids, all jammed in the car together. We played looser word games back then. 20 Questions, The Alphabet Game, I Spy, and so on.
I wondered what it would be like to make a word game that felt like those. That became Dartwords. It’s a word game that feels like a conversation. You can guess anything you want, and Darty (a talking dart, you’ll love ‘em) will reply with a clue.
We think it’s really special. Hope you love it too. dartwords.com

UI that reacts to where you look would be another cool use case if ARKit's eye tracking was more precise on future iPhones (and easier on the battery!)

I finally got time to pickup my PR from 2020 (!!) that makes RN use asset catalog for local images on iOS.
This reduces app size significantly since only the right density image is included when the app is downloaded. It also improves time to load from disk significantly (~10x).

Been wanting to try this since visionOS was unveiled: hover interactions on mobile using your eyes!
Had to build an @expo module for ARKit eye tracking and then it was just a matter of finding cool ideas :)
If an animation looks janky on your machine, check a release build before you change a line of code.
Debug inflates Reanimated's per-frame cost by 2 to 3x. An animation that blows the 16.7ms frame budget in debug can land at a third of that in release.
Our friends from @AppAndFlow wrote about four animation approaches, benchmarked on iOS and Android: expo.dev/blog/the-real-cost-…

Another clip of my exploration work around gesture-driven navigation in bottom sheets (trays), recorded on a physical device this time. (Looks smoother and shows interruptibility better.)
Built with @expo UI, react-native-ease, gesture handler, and reanimated.

Some React Native animations can take a lighter path.
New React Universe On Air is live: @lukasz_app talks with @janicduplessis from @appandflow about React Native Ease, Core Animation on iOS, where Reanimated still wins, and why doing less work can be a real performance advantage.

I went on React Universe On Air to talk with @lukasz_app about creating react-native-ease.
It was great and hopefully you can get some insights about how it is like to create a new react-native library in 2026.
Full episode out July 8th!

Some animations need Reanimated. Some just need native primitives.
@janicduplessis explains where `react-native-ease` fits: native-driven motion for common transitions, and why Reanimated still matters when animation gets more complex.
The full episode premieres on July 8 at 3 PM CEST. Stay tuned 👇 Link below

We just created a profile for App&Flow on @spottedinprod, where we want to start sharing more of the design engineering focused work we do, for both explorations and live projects.
Here's a prototype I built while exploring gesture-driven navigation in cards/trays.

A fun web light/dark theme toggle !
Made the little 3D light engine for fun in Blender, using the @appandflow logo as reference.
A few fun bits:
- no baked-in animations
- button presses animation are driven in Three.js
- light states + glow are generated in code
- theme toggle and model lights sync together
Tiny experiment, but pretty satisfying when the logo starts behaving like a physical object.

Some exploration around hover interactions while working on @appandflow's upcoming blog.
We want the content to be valuable enough to shine by itself, so the concept is "sleeper design". Simple at first glance, but filled with small, satisfying interactions.

I've been using AI agents to iterate on a fix for an iOS React Native TextInput rendering bug overnight, using @callstack agent-device + RN Tester (the RN repo's example app) as its test loop.
The video below replays each fix attempt. 📷

Messing around with react-native-ease from @appandflow after reading @janicduplessis’s excellent article.
Really impressive work from the team, the API feels clean super familiar.
Can’t wait to push it further and build more things with it.

The @appandflow team's react-native-ease library has some cleverly engineered tricks for 0 JS animations 🔥
For starters, a bitmask tells the native side "this prop was actually animated". It looks something like this:
bit 0 = opacity
bit 1 = translateX
bit 2 = translateY
bit 3 = scaleX
When it comes to reading animations, it actually reads from the presentation layer, so animations never snap. Quite clever.
Lastly, I found some cray cray math on the Android side and it turns out that's a harmonic oscillator that makes iOS + Android springs look identical 🤯
🙌 Expo is the best it's ever been, and it's about to get a lot better.
We raised a Series B so we can go faster on the things that matter to you: faster builds, smoother native integrations, and the services to make end-to-end app development a delightful experience.
There is a lot of work to do. This round led by @Georgian_io puts us in position to go do it!

react-native-ease by @appandflow is the 🐐
so apparently number-flow-react-native has perf issues, but i was able to pull off a custom buttery smooth animation for price updates with react-native-ease
take your flowers @appandflow 🌸
npx expo install react-native-ease

just use number-flow-react-native
animated number transitions in react native with one component, works on both ios and android
npx expo install number-flow-react-native
that’s it. price updates → smooth animation, no extra logic needed
