what's really grim to me is watching people respond to fic authors' discomfort with legal arguments and tos policies as if what's moral should start and end with that. things like decency, consent, and autonomy are not respected by their own merit.

I'm in a weird position as a fic writer where I'm fine with people sharing my fics but also incredibly uncomfortable with the entitlement everyone is admitting to having when it comes to downloading and sharing other people's work in bulk

Ngl, I really didn’t care if my fics got shared in massive folders. Seeing how some of you guys have treated writers who expressed their discomfort though… massive yikes. Good to know if I *was* uncomfortable, it wouldn’t matter 💀

If an author asks you not to share their works elsewhere, the best response is “okay, will do, sorry about that!” It’s really not that hard. Especially since Ao3 will be back up and running in a few weeks.

Many of us didn’t mind our fics getting shared. Most of us are disgusted by how many people would have plowed over us to share no matter how we felt.

while I wish my fics weren't in mass public drives, I know that they are and there's nothing I can do to stop it. if you read and enjoy, it would be rad if you dropped a comment later. but I can say the attitude towards fic writers is making it really difficult for me to +
