In 1941, a Spaniard walked into the British embassy in Madrid and offered to spy on the Nazis.
The British turned him down.
So he went to the Germans instead, pretended to be a loyal fascist, and got hired as a German spy. His plan was to lie to them for the rest of the war.
It worked better than anyone could have imagined.
His name was Juan Pujol García. Before the war he had tried his hand at running a chicken farm and a movie theater. He had no spy training. What he had was a deep hatred of both fascism and communism after the Spanish Civil War, and an incredible imagination.
The Germans gave him a codename, invisible ink, money, and orders to go to Britain and recruit spies.
He didn't go to Britain.
He went to Lisbon, Portugal, and made everything up.
Using a tourist guidebook, maps, magazines, newsreels, and a British railway timetable from the library, he wrote long, detailed reports about life in England. Military movements. Morale. Ports.
He'd never been there. He made mistakes. He didn't understand British money. He once reported that dockworkers in Glasgow would do anything for a liter of wine.
The Germans loved him anyway.
Then British codebreakers reading German messages noticed something strange. The Germans were hunting for a convoy that didn't exist, based on a report from some agent in Britain they'd never heard of.
The British went looking for this mystery spy. They found Pujol. In 1942 they finally took him on and brought him to London.
Now he had real help. MI5 gave him the codename Garbo, after the actress, because they thought he was the greatest actor in the world.
Together with his British handler, Pujol built a fake spy network for the Germans. It eventually had 27 imaginary agents. Each had a name, a personality, a job, and a backstory. A Welsh nationalist. A Venezuelan student. A Greek sailor. Some of them recruited their own imaginary sub-agents.
When they needed to explain why one agent had gone quiet, they killed him off. They even put a fake obituary in a Liverpool newspaper. The Germans reportedly paid a pension to his widow.
Who also didn't exist.
Then came D-Day.
Hours before the landings, the British let Pujol send a message warning the Germans that the invasion was coming in Normandy. It was timed so it would arrive too late to matter, but it made him look brilliant.
Three days later he sent the most important message of his career. Normandy was a trick, he said. The real invasion was still coming, at Calais, led by a huge army under General Patton.
That army was fake too. But the Germans believed him.
German forces that could have been rushed to Normandy were held back near Calais for weeks, waiting for an attack that never came.
The Germans were so grateful they awarded him the Iron Cross.
A few months later, King George VI made him a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
He's one of the only people known to have been decorated by both sides of the war.
After the war, afraid of revenge from surviving Nazis, he faked his own death from malaria in Africa and disappeared to Venezuela, where he lived quietly running a shop.
For decades the world thought he was dead.
In 1984, a British writer tracked him down. Pujol came back to Normandy for the 40th anniversary of D-Day and met veterans who had landed on the beaches.
Some of them thanked him.

Have you ever been sexually assaulted or experienced unwanted sexual contact by a man?
You don’t have to tell your story. I want men to see the answers.
Funny how women know so many victims, but men never seem to know a rapist.

It's a lie that there is suddenly more trans people than ever before. There has always been this many trans people. They are just more visible now as they feel more comfortable and safer coming out - in the middle of the trans genocide.

The detail is amazing for something almost 1000 years old!!

That tells you nothing about my views on gender, borders, religion, taxes, or Trump.

Something very strange happened to progressivism.
A movement supposedly dedicated to bringing people together became obsessed with separating us by race, sex, gender and sexuality, then assigning everyone a position on an oppressor/oppressed hierarchy. That’s not progress. It’s regression.
We must reject this philosophy and return to sanity.
This paper (below) looked at whether biological sex and “gender” are independently associated with certain aspects of brain structure. In 88 healthy adults, they found that sex is mainly associated with regional brain volumes, while “gender” is associated with cortical thickness in various prefrontal regions.
However, as usual there are many problems with how this data is interpreted...
Firstly, they don’t really measure “gender”. They use the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI), which measures adherence of traditional masculine/feminine personality traits. Even then, there are questions around how well the BSRI actually captures these constructs. A review of 23 validation studies found that the underlying structure captured by the BSRI was more complicated than simply “masculinity” and “femininity”, and questioned whether these constructs were adequately captured by the scale.
The authors then simplify this even further by creating a single “gender continuum”:
Femininity − Masculinity
This seems odd to me because masculinity and femininity were specifically designed as separate dimensions in the BSRI, rather than opposite ends of the same scale. Someone high in both could therefore have exactly the same “gender” score as someone low in both. So I’m not sure this can really be interpreted as a continuum of “gender”.
My biggest issue, though, is their claim of “sex-specific” effects. When they split the sample by sex, several correlations between femininity and cortical thickness are significant in females but not males. But a significant correlation in females and a non-significant correlation in males does not mean the two sexes significantly differ. You need to directly test whether the relationship differs between males and females (i.e., an interaction). They actually do this, and the sex × gender interaction is not significant (p=.651). These subgroup correlations are also uncorrected for multiple comparisons, with several only just reaching p<.05. So I think describing these as “sex-specific” is quite a strong interpretation.
I’m also not convinced by their brain-size correction. They divide regional volumes by overall brain volume, which effectively assumes that regional volumes scale proportionally with brain size. But we know that isn’t necessarily true. If a structure increases less than proportionally as brains get larger, smaller brains will naturally have a larger regional volume / brain volume ratio. Since females have smaller brains on average, this can make some structures look “proportionally larger” in females simply because of normal allometric scaling. So some of these apparent regional sex differences could actually be mediated by the underlying difference in brain size, rather than representing a specific effect of sex on that region. I’d much rather see brain size modelled directly (e.g., ANCOVA), alongside testing the allometric relationship.
Finally, it’s cross-sectional. Even if we accept the BSRI as capturing some aspect of gendered experience, a correlation with cortical thickness doesn’t tell us whether gendered experience caused the brain difference, whether the relationship goes in the opposite direction, or whether something else influences both.
Overall, I do NOT think this paper provides convincing evidence for separate effects of sex and “gender” on brain structure. At most, it shows that biological sex and scores on a questionable measure of masculine/feminine personality traits correlate with different structural measures. That’s a much narrower finding than the paper implies

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was the best contribution to child literacy ever made by a celebrity. Our paths crossed once, in the 90s, backstage at a talk show, and I was completely tongue-tied and starstruck. RIP Dolly. You were a complete, irreplaceable one-off.

I remember being a young Jewish kid growing up in Britain, kicking a ball about and idolising Gary Lineker, dreaming that one day I’d grow up to be as good as him.
As a Spurs and England fan. He was quite literally my idol at one point.
Turns out that young Jewish boy would grow up to have his idol sharing videos that compare him and his family to Rats and Nazis.
This fully grown Jew now believes that Gary Lineker is nothing, just piece of shit, and that’s all he’ll be remembered as.
In my opinion, British Jews deserve better than to see his hateful face pop up on TV.

Not “queer.”
Not “part of the community.”
Not an activist.
Not a walking rainbow flag.
I’m a normal guy who likes men. That’s it.
I don’t want to redefine reality.
I don’t want kids in the conversation.
I don’t want pronouns shoved down my throat.
I don’t want the alphabet mafia speaking for me.
Most of us just want to live our lives, date, work, and be left the hell alone.
The loudest ones don’t represent us. They embarrass us.
If that makes me a “bad gay,” good. I’ll take normal over crazy every single time.
