This press note is peak bureaucratese. “No appointment till 4 PM… venue unusual… protocol requires ECI premises… we offered to send the senior-most officer on duty…” Classic delay tactics: (a) Wait for a formal request instead of acting when 240 MPs are already outside. (b) Reject Parliament House Annexe purely because it isn’t Nirvachan Sadan. (c) Offer a last-minute “officer on duty” only after refusing the meeting. Why couldn’t ECI simply pick up the phone, fix a time, and hear them? Is the Election Commission now allergic to elected representatives?
In a press note released by the Election Commission of India said that earlier on October 6, it was informed through the media that some Members of Parliament wanted to meet the Commission along with their delegation, and later, at around 4 PM, Delhi Police informed the ECI that a delegation of MPs led by LoP Rahul Gandhi wished to meet the Commission and submit a memorandum. The ECI said that in 2025, it had laid down a procedure for meetings with political parties, under which delegations are required to seek appointments through an authorised representative. After 4 PM, when the Commission was considering the request, the Delhi Police informed it that the meeting was being sought with a group of around 240 MPs at Parliament House Annexe, which the ECI said was an unusual request and could not be accepted as its meetings are held only on its premises. The ECI said it proposed that its senior-most officer be sent to receive the memorandum, but the offer was declined by the MPs. The Commission reiterated that political parties can request meetings with it at any time, with the date and time mutually scheduled, and said it respects parliamentary and democratic processes as well as its own protocols and conventions.

Nice article in the Mint today. The bravado of "Whatever it costs" to the reality of needing shock therapy. The snowball starts small...

This is real. The first question they ask during admission is whether we have insurance policy and then they decide the treatment. For my dad, they kept him in room for 10 days without any proper medication and charged 3L. It's getting worse by the month.
🚨 Blackstone, KKR, TPG and others invested $10 billion in Indian hospitals in 5 years. Parliament panel warns this is pushing up bills and limiting care for common people. Medical inflation is running at 13% a year.

More skeletons are tumbling out of the Election Omission of India’s closet. Clearly the PM-HM strategy was to somehow capture and win the West Bengal Assembly elections at any cost. It was a text book case of mass manipulation and rigging which was overseen by the CEC. The puppet has of course to go but the two puppeteers too have to be held accountable. They stand brutally exposed and now it is only a matter of time for them to meet their reckoning. Today, MPs of the INDIA janbandhan plus other Opposition MPs who have also been invited will be marching peacefully to the Election Commission of India to demand the CEC's resignation. Looks like the Parliament complex is already under an unprecedented security siege showing the extreme nervousness of the puppeteer pair.

This is outrageous! According to this @IndianExpress report: The Supreme Court created tribunals to protect voters wrongly deleted during West Bengal SIR. The Election Commission provided a portal that judges say couldn't serve notices, couldn't hold virtual hearings, couldn't upload documents and couldn't even restore a voter after a Tribunal ordered restoration. 27.16 lakh voters were deleted. 38.31 lakh appeals (16.1 lakh by the ECI against inclusions). The judges themselves say the EC's system was obstructing the appeal process. First you delete the voter. Then you make it difficult for the voter to get justice. What kind of Election Commission runs an electoral system like this? At whose behest? We need answers! @ECISVEEP @PMOIndia @kharge @RahulGandhi

Because Selling Tea Is A Crime!!! 58 year old Polasa Sudhakar, a chai vendor went to the Bheemgal Police Station in Balkonda, Telangana, yesterday at 10am. In full public view, he set himself ablaze and was later shifted to hospital with about 90 percent burns. Today - he succumbed to the injuries. Sudhakar is a small time tea vendor near Balkonda bus stand and he has been facing harrassment from the police for a while now, only because he keeps his shop open beyond 10pm. Police slapped three cases for selling chai beyond 10pm and he was frequently called to the police station on the pretext of investigation and questioning. He was called yesterday also and was asked to attend court & pay penalties. This was the fourth penalty on him. In a statement recorded yesterday at the hospital, Sudhakar detailed out how SI Tirupathi mentally tortured him and drove him to take this extreme step. After Sudhakar’s death today, Nizamabad CP Sai Chaitanya said police did nothing wrong in this case and were only doing their job 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Why is the ECI trying so hard to hide money spent on Gyanesh Kumar? I'd asked ECI for details on expenses made through PUBLIC FUNDS on Gyanesh Kumar's OFFICIAL TRIPS. They rejected it citing "personal information". So I filed an appeal. ECI STILL refuses to share the details claiming "there is no larger public interest". How is taxpayer money spent on Gyanesh Kumar's trips NOT IN PUBLIC INTEREST?

The corporatisation of Indian hospitals should be nipped in the bud. The US healthcare model is a completely broken one Hospitals should be treated as public utilities. Power companies have a fixed RoE. Why not follow the same model for hospitals?

Turns out we misunderstood “Ease of Doing Business” since 2014. It was never about making it easier to do business. It was about making businesses easier for the babus to deal with. We thought the government wanted to reduce the friction faced by job creators. Apparently, it wanted businesses to become better at navigating the friction. #EDF

ICYMI: After #ECI claimed #SIR would purify the voter rolls in India, we found it had locked 1.88 lakh suspect duplicate voters on the draft roll in Bihar. Nobody knows if they voted twice or not. This was nearly a year ago. We have now shown undisclosed voters have been added to Uttar Pradesh final role. We have been investigating the SIR for over a year. Working with data experts, whistleblowers and others This work takes immense time and resources. Donate to keep us going. We have more to tell. Oh Boy! I know many young students who do remote engineering "tasks" on websites from $5 to $50 "prizes". Now they all have to learn EDF, ensure they don't miss any detail and chase their bank and some "officer"!! Why not do this in 2047 when as per our PM, the govt will be somewhat effective in being responsive to citizens.

Every rupee that moves through a bank is already on record. The entire trail sits in the account statement. So what, exactly, is this EDF for? The red tape of the 1950s is clearly back: more paperwork, more wasted hours, more roadblocks for FDI trying to enter the country. This government seems determined to make every citizen account for every second they spend here. Sabka Penury, sabka misery.
New rule for reporting software/services exports to RBI. Involves more filings, banking coordination etc. Seems targeted at freelancers, consultants, 1-3 member IT/dev shops, SMEs... since the mid/large cos are already doing this for years. Will add more friction to the business cycle by slowing down export transactions, payments, cash flows. IMHO this looks motivated by the familiar Indian bureaucratic playbook - to catch the errant / dishonest 5%, punish the rest 95% as well. For every step forward, we take two steps backwards! Clearly reverse EODB at play! #EDF #RBI

RBI's new EDF monthly filing + restrictions on unrealised advance = Death warrant for freelance exporters. India's $25 BN freelance service export economy runs on small $500-$5000 payments, not corporate LCs. Stop treating freelancers like money launderers. Ease compliance, save jobs.
