🇳🇴🇺🇸🇷🇺 Norwegian General Sverre Diesen, former Chief of Defence of Norway, has openly said what many European politicians prefer to remain silent about: “Under the current administration, we cannot consider America our ally. Trump's United States is a hostile actor that, in the event of a conflict in Europe, is more likely to side with Russia than with us and other European countries.” These are not the words of a Russian propagandist. This is the assessment of a former military chief of a NATO member state. And if European generals are already openly warning that the United States could side with Russia in a war in Europe, one question remains: How many more warnings do European leaders need before they finally start seriously preparing to defend themselves? Ukraine — 2022. Europe — 2027… Remember this tweet.

Last night, SpaceX abruptly restricted the military Starlink service Ukraine has built critical battlefield systems around, without warning. Ukrainian commanders say missions failed as a result. Whether Musk acted at the Trump administration’s request is not yet proven. But given Trump’s record, it would hardly be surprising if Washington had pushed for it. Look at the pattern. At some point, pretending each new concession to Moscow is an isolated event becomes less credible than acknowledging what is in front of us. The larger lesson is already clear. Europe cannot build its defence around critical infrastructure that can be altered overnight by a private American company, especially when European and American interests may no longer align. There is a line often attributed to Churchill that Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing, once they have exhausted every alternative. Churchill was wrong. Sometimes they exhaust every alternative and still fail to do the right thing. Europe can no longer base its security on the assumption that Washington will eventually come around. Whatever the motive behind this decision, Europe now needs its own redundant communications networks, satellite capacity and military infrastructure that cannot simply be switched off from the United States.

BREAKING - Is PUTIN selling IRANIAN DIESEL to TRUMP in a huge SCAM!?!?!? Putin's regime is letting the press know that during Trump's 90 minute "Happy Birthday" phone call with Putin on Friday, Trump gushed over him, praising him over and over. And so, they say, Putin played right into it, and pulled a massive con-job on Trump, apparently with the intention humiliating Trump in front of the entire world. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Russia does NOT have enough diesel to supply its OWN needs. Especially since Ukraine has been destroying its refining plants. Russia is now getting its fuel needs met by IRAN. The border of Iran is only a hundred miles from the border of Russia by truck, and only 500 miles by sea - they are connected by the Caspian Sea. And oil and petroleum products have been flowing to Russia steadily from Iran, all the time both the Ukraine War and the Iran War have been going on. It's the reason Russia has been able to keep going, despite Ukraine's bombardments. It's the reason that Iran has kept going despite Trump's blockade of the Strait. And THAT is the reason the United States has declared SANCTIONS on BOTH countries' export of oil, during all this time. Including NEW US sanctions and tariffs on nations that import Russian oil and gas, passed almost UNANIMOUSLY by Congress just weeks ago. Yes. The "Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026". TRUMP himself SIGNED IT INTO LAW on September 18, 2026. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . But Trump walked RIGHT into Putin's scam anyway. Either he already FORGOT about this, or he figured everyone in the United States is as dumb as his MAGA rally groupies. He thought he could put a fast one over on all of us. And instead, he owned HIMSELF. Bad enough if that diesel fuel is actually from Russia But if it is from IRAN, then it will be used to finance IRAN in Trump's own war. OUR OWN TAXPAYER money will be used against US. Against the United States of America. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Commentary by Glee Violette.

Marco Rubio has announced that Europe may yet awaken from its long slumber and rekindle the fire lit here millennia ago. It is a remarkable thing to hear from the representative of a country that has just sailed past 40 trillion dollars in debt and now spends more on interest than on its own military. One wonders what exactly we slept through. While dozing, Europeans somehow arranged to live several years longer than Americans, to see a doctor without remortgaging the house, and to take August off. Six of the seven happiest countries on earth are European, according to this year's World Happiness Report, and the United States is 23rd. So thank you, Mr Secretary, for the wake-up call. If the generational shift you are hoping for means tariffs struck down in court, bond yields at their highest since 2007 and a government that insults its allies for sport, we would rather stay in bed.

Carney Owned the Room: Trump Saw It, Felt It, and Still Denies It - At the United Nations, the difference between Mark Carney and Donald Trump wasn’t subtle — it was impossible to ignore. Carney moved through the building like someone the world actually needed. Delegates stopped him constantly, pulling him into side conversations, asking for guidance, and inviting him into discussions that weren’t even on the schedule. Nations wanted his insight because it carried WEIGHT. His presence shaped the agenda, not the other way around. Trump’s experience was the opposite. He followed a rigid schedule to adhere to his listlessness, attended the meetings arranged for him, and watched the rest of the building flow around Carney instead of him. The isolation was visible. And while Carney was intercepted by countries extremely eager to challenge the United States’ direction, Trump was left standing with only the official, pre‑planned sessions — the kind that feel more like protocol than actual influence. It’s no surprise now that this is dynamic fed resentment on Trumps part. When one man is being pulled into real global decision‑making in hallways and side rooms, and the other is being ushered from space to space with assistants trying to explain to Trump what to do next, the jealousy writes itself. Textbook Trump. Today, that divide echoes in Canada’s political climate. Despite boisterous claims about a “liberal” government, conservatism has blended into the system in a way that distances Canada from Trump’s America. The world sees Canada as stable, cooperative, and now rapidly moving away from the chaos that defined recent U.S. politics. Whether people like it or not, the shift is happening — and the UN’s reaction to Carney versus Trump showed EXACTLY how clearly the world recognized it. America is withering on the political vine of democracy, while Canda is flourishing into an incredible global respected power. Trumps anger and weakness as a leader is on full display for Canadians and the world to witness now. #canpoli #cdnpoly #Canada #MAGA #CPC #trump

People keep saying Trump term II is the most corrupt administration ever, so I built a model to find out if it was true. I took the UN's definition of corruption, turned it into eight criteria and 100 points, and scored the leaders history remembers for looting their countries: Marcos, Suharto, Mobutu, Abacha, Obiang, Putin. Then I put every president since Eisenhower on the same scale, both parties, with every exoneration counted right alongside the convictions. Nixon scored 41 and no other American President scored over a 25. Trump's second term scored a 91, which ties him with Suharto and Mobutu and puts him above Marcos and Abacha. So he is not only the most corrupt president in American history. At this pace he finishes his term level with the most corrupt rulers of the last hundred years. PSA: don't come in my comments arguing about the results if you haven't read the full article, because ignorance is a choice. Full article is up now on my Substack (link in bio) and it's free.

Thank you, Prime Minister @andyburnham, for the warm welcome to Liverpool. Canada and the United Kingdom are the closest of friends — with shared history and ambition. Right now, we have an enormous opportunity to build together with the right values — in AI, defence, trade, and beyond. We’re going to seize it.

🇨🇦 🇺🇦 Ukraine took one look over the border at Putin's failed regime, a petrol station with nuclear weapons, recoiled in horror and said hell no! Now Canada has peered downstairs at Trump's failed regime, seen the same thing and said hell no! Ottawa has asked Brussels whether there is room at the table, and Ursula von der Leyen says we love you, opening the door for Canada to become the EU's first associate member. The comparison is not a cheap one, because the mechanism is identical. Both countries share a border with a country whose leader has said out loud that they should not really exist as independent states. Putin wrote essays explaining that Ukraine was a historical accident. Trump spent years musing about a fifty-first state, slapping tariffs on his closest ally and treating a G7 democracy like its worst enemy. And before you raise your hand, yes, Canada already borders the EU. Since 2022 it has shared a land border with the Kingdom of Denmark on Hans Island, a lump of rock in the Nares Strait between Ellesmere Island and Greenland, which the two countries split down the middle after a decades-long dispute conducted entirely with flags and bottles of schnapps. That is how civilised neighbours settle territory. And frankly, why would anyone choose otherwise. Europe beats both Russia and the United States on every measure of a life worth living, from life expectancy to healthcare to the simple ability to send a child to school without a gun drill. Putin offers trenches and conscription, Trump offers tariffs and chaos, and Europe offers the next century. Welcome, Canada. You picked the obvious winner. This Australian's reply to Trump's rant about “NATO not being there for America” is perfect. "Mate. You run a country with 600,000 homeless people sleeping on the street tonight. A country where 40% of adults can't cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. A country where women are dying in hospital car parks because doctors are too scared of abortion laws to treat a miscarriage. You lock up more of your own citizens than any nation on earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The land of the free has 2 million people in cages, and a quarter of them haven't even been convicted of anything. They're just too poor to make bail. Your life expectancy is going backwards. You're the only developed nation where that's happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba's. Your kids do active shooter drills between maths and English while you sell the gunmaker's stock to your mates. Your minimum wage hasn't moved in 15 years. You've got teachers working 2 jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that didn't attack you. And you’ve got a convicted felon, adjudicating raping, paedophile protecting, porn star shagging insurrectionist running the biggest dumpster fire war campaign since the Taliban thanked you very much for losing again. And you're calling Greenland poorly run? Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no. 'NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years. And you pulled out at 2am without telling anyone and left them to deal with the mess. So maybe before you start calling other countries poorly run, have a look at your own backyard, you spray-tanned aluminium siding salesman. The only thing poorly run in this picture is your f----- mouth."

The president who promised to lower your bills on day one just triggered a full-blown trade war with Canada that will do the exact opposite. Canada isn’t just important for trade. It’s a NATO ally and one of our closest security partners in the world. Generations of American and Canadian leaders built that relationship because it makes both countries safer and more prosperous. Trump has spent the last two years trying to destroy it. Picking unnecessary fights with our closest allies doesn’t make America stronger. It makes us untrustworthy and unreliable. nytimes.com/2026/08/25/world…

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
