Today AI is augmenting the traditional flow, compressing the frontend + backend cycle. The Cursor moment for design and verification arrives when @cursor_ai buys workflow data from dying semiconductor startups and builds a superhuman frontend. Big, monetizable market. The physical backend is a more custom workflow. That likely needs a startup like Ricursion. Custom ASIC digital design commoditizes.

That is less than half way there - how long to wafers out? then the time to bring up and debug... any silicon spins to fix bugs? When do they release production wafers and then when is volume ramp. $NVDA has multiple chips in parallel being designed, taped-out, and volume risk wafer starts... very hard to compete

There’s a projection that at least 60% of EDA would be AI-based by 2030 for Cadence and Synopsys . And that’s kind of a stale forecast!

It means nothing, unless the AI has all the workflows already present in $CDNS and $SNPS (almost impossible). Chip design is very different from software engineering, it has very very little room for error. With chips you measure a million times and cut once. I think $CDNS and $SPNS will be needed even more, AI is a tailwind for these businesses. As a matter of fact $NVDA invested $2B in $SNPS late 2025, while creating commercial and technical partnership with $CDNS
