The big publishers did not popularize the APC model. Most publishers, big and small, thought it was dangerous. Pieces like this editorial are misrepresenting the history of what actually happened.

I honestly believe that this is an excellent strategy to improve the quality of the reviews, reducing the possible "ghost-writer" bias coupled with an important educational opportunity.
✅As the review reports are recognizable, the chances that some reviewers would delegate others or juniors to do it would potentially decrease.
✅The reviewers work is time-consuming and requires expertise, knowledge, and balance. Readers and authors can take advantage of "reviewer" mindset to improve their own work
✅Reviewers actively contribute to making scientific content stronger, and for a reader, knowing the process that led to the final product is an excellent educational opportunity.
💡Reproducibility, transparency, and equality—these are the three take-home messages of this important @jUrology initiative, which is bringing The Journal into 2023 and beyond
