Everyone is sending this to me and expecting me to dunk on @typesfast but I kind of agree. With the wrong childcare setup (i.e. not enough childcare), people may work less when they are remote.
It is indeed hard as an employer to know that all your employees have a strong childcare setup that supports remote work. I can understand where he is coming from here.
We've figured out how to do this at @Winnie, but I don't think it's easy or something all companies can necessarily replicate. It helps a lot that we are a small team.
Why Remote Work is White Collar Fraud.
"I have a three-year-old and a five-year-old. The idea that I could do any work at my house is like a total fantasy.
The kids come home at 3pm, your work day needs to keep going. I'm highly against it." @typesfast

From Parenting App to Leading Childcare Marketplace
@Winnie started as a tool for parents to find kid-friendly spots, but its pivot to focus on childcare transformed the business.
@Alex sat down with Sara Mauskopf @sm to learn how Winnie’s grown into a national resource for daycare, preschool, aftercare, and more.
"We spent years building the platform, amassing a massive directory of childcare data to support parents and providers across the U.S."

Today, on Mom’s Equal Pay Day, we visited Guidepost Montessori in Emeryville, CA with @Winnie. Childcare is critical infrastructure- like technology and roads- that allows women to work and meet their families’ economic needs.
California services like MyChildcarePlan.org along with childcare centers like Guidepost, and connectors like Winnie, help us reduce gaps in access to care. #MomsEqualPayDay

FYI it took me many years to figure out
“It’s important for us to build a relationship with you long before we invest”
actually just means
“we are trying to gather intelligence on your industry for free and have no intent to invest in your company”

It feels pretty darn good to have @Winnie make it on the #Inc5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies by revenue this year (177 overall, 1 in Consumer Services)
I decided to use this opportunity to write a little bit about how we got here winnie.com/blog/winnie-named…

I dated @mauskopf for 3-4 months before deciding to marry him and @annekate I knew about the same amount of time before deciding to start a company with her. Gonna be celebrating 12 years and 8 years respectively. With some people you just know.
Years ago, a partner at Y Combinator told me the #1 predictor of whether a startup would fail the YC program is the number of months the founders knew each other before starting their company.
If the founders knew each other less than 18 months, they were far more likely to fail.
You spend just as much time with your cofounder as you do your spouse. You have to be able to fight without being hurt. You have to trust each other
Spend time with people you’d like to start a company with now.

The summer camp scramble is real!!
Yesterday at 8:30am, registration opened for our community center's summer day camp.
By 8:32am, slots for all weeks for my 11yo were filled.
Summer camp woes are a systemic problem, and mothers are the ones who typically make the sacrifices.

The head of a company should be able to focus on running that company and making payroll, not scrambling to become a banking expert. That’s one reason why we have regulations in the first place. And we need to make them stronger. nytimes.com/2023/03/18/busin…
Mauskopf said it’s not about whether “rich VC funds deserve a bailout,” but about whether biz can pay their bills with the money they’ve earned.
“I want to make sure people understand this has a real effect on real people that aren’t wealthy,” she said.

Big launch from @Winnie today to help parents find special needs child care.
You think finding child care is hard? Try finding it for a neurodiverse kid, for example.
🔎DID YOU KNOW parents of young children with disabilities are three times more likely than other parents to experience job disruptions due to lack of child care?
Today we're launching winnie.com/special-needs to help.

As the Moonikin flying aboard the @NASA_Orion spacecraft, I realize how lucky I am to be here! Not every manikin has this opportunity.
You know how the famous saying goes… “One small step for a man, one giant leap for a manikin.”

ALT A portion of the far side of the Moon looms large just beyond the Orion spacecraft in this image taken on the sixth day of the Artemis I mission by a camera on the tip of one of Orion’s solar arrays. The spacecraft entered the lunar sphere of influence Sunday, Nov. 20, making the Moon, instead of Earth, the main gravitational force acting on the spacecraft.
I showed the #Artemis I launch to my 2 year old daughter. Ever since, she’s been asking me, “I go to space when I’m older?” 🥰
LIFTOFF! @NASA_SLS and @NASA_Orion launch on their first flight, the #Artemis I mission. Keep checking back for more launch images 📷➡️flic.kr/s/aHBqjzG1pG
