Miyomoto's response to why AI is good is so eloquent I am honestly impressed.

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

I heard a fascinating story about human behaviour today. A tour guide at a historic castle was getting very high ratings from tourists. They went to see what he was doing differently. On several of the rooms he had used the red velvet ropes to block the doors. These were normally used when the rooms were being repaired or cleaned. He had put them up at the beginning of each day. During g the tour he would look around and say to the group “would you like to have a quick look in here?” And they would say yes in hushed tones. He would ceremoniously unclip the rope and let them through into the room. A room that was always a normal part of every tour. This simple little bit of theatre made people love the tour that much more. Humans love what we can’t have.

introducing FindMyWifePhone™️ my latest shortcut squarely placed on the pareto frontier. there is no easier & cheaper way to find your wife's phone. "honey, do you know where my phone is?" the fuck I dont! "can you call me?!" she keeps her phone on silent. so i made this shortcut to help. trigger = i send her a text with !ping in it action = hey phone sets a timer for 1s timer always works, we like to keep our phones on silent + dnd and we dont use apple watches. so finding each other's phones used to be a challenge. we both have this set up in reverse, and its worked well. bonus shortcut = button in home screen widget to send !ping to my wife (we also have one called !awaken which disables silent, sets volume to max & disables do not disturb in case of emergency)

I'll be so honest. I never understood this, or felt it. From the start all I've felt is excitement and hope. When I started messing with AI, I had been illustrating and writing code for years, I had made a job out of creating art even. But all I felt was excitement at what I was immediately capable of. At first it was just "Wow I don't need to find references anymore, I can just make them how I want". Then it was "Oh I don't need first drafts anymore this is awesome". On and on, until now where I barely need to make edits. Its genuinely so exciting that I can execute my creative vision nearly as fast as I can have the ideas to begin with. This lets me create projects in weeks or months that would have taken years before. The same happened with code, to the point where I don't think I've actually hand written a line of code in 5 months. I can do so much more, with so much less time, and for so much less investment. My ideas can turn into full demos within days and completed projects in weeks. And the slowest part of the loop is still me, testing, making up my mind about features, etc. Honestly this has actually improved my own thinking speed, because the faster I can iterate on my ideas in my head, the faster they can exist in reality. I have never felt more creative freedom as an artist or a programmer than right now. I can make anything I want. If I had to guess, I think some people feel sad because they are told it's what they are supposed to feel. I got into this before it was taboo, I never had that social pressure. I got to see it for what it was, the single greatest creative tool since mankind discovered pigments. If you're someone who feels sad about hand code and illustration disappearing from industry, and you've read this far, I challenge you to think bigger. Use AI to build a ridiculous solo project that you think is impossible for one person. Use it to explore new ideas or new styles. I'm actually doing that right now. I've never messed with low-poly 3D before as an art form or for games, but I'm learning to use it and having such an awesome time doing it.
I’ve been coding by hand, animating and illustrating by hand (digital) since I was 12. I feel so sad seeing it all slowly disappear in the industry. I don’t know what the right feeling should be. But I do know I feel sadness

Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered 39 years ago today! To mark the occasion, here’s a clip from what might be the smartest episode of television ever aired, “The Measure of a Man” (S2 E9). I get students in my philosophy and science fiction class to watch it every year.
