? What the fuck does that mean? Is this legally binding or just some sort of key jingling for headlines

This is dark.
There’s something very funny and slightly terrifying about an AI company setting aside money to help people who might lose their jobs to AI.
“We’re sorry about your accounting career. Have you considered applying for our grant?”
Anthropic is proposing to put 5% of its shares into a public benefit fund. As the company gets more valuable, its board can contribute more.
The founders say they’ve also pledged 80% of their own equity. Credit where it’s due. That’s a serious commitment.
But what a potential economic loop.
Your job gets automated. The company that automated it gets more valuable. Its charitable fund gets richer. You apply for assistance.
I’m an M&A attorney. I spend all day asking who controls the money and what rights everyone else gets.
So yes, I like the part where humanity gets some upside.
Would love to know if we negotiated any voting rights.
Yesh.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

Everything else aside, why would an uncle be responsible for where his niece and nephew go to college?

Vance attributed high gas prices mainly to ~20% US refining capacity lost under Biden, but EIA data shows ~5% net decline since 2020 peak (major drop pre-Biden; stable later). Prices spiked with 2026 Iran conflict.

Your reminder that Trump’s billionaire allies control what you see on TikTok, X, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube — and they have a vested interest in making sure Dems don’t take the majority, so Trump isn’t investigated.

Who is asking for this future, @DarioAmodei? You claim to care about democracy. But if you actually cared about it, you'd be asking people around the world, in every city and country, *right now* about whether they want this. Just admit you don't GIVE A SHIT about democracy!
Dario Amodei: We may be only two or three years away from AI systems being better than humans at almost all tasks.
“I call it a country of geniuses in a data center.”
“Imagine tens of thousands of geniuses, smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across many fields.”
“They could cure diseases and extend the human lifespan.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we were able to double the human lifespan.”
“They may even build robots for themselves and project themselves into the physical world.”
“There are all kinds of questions around the balance of power.”

In general, it seems fairly obvious that public anti-AI sentiment will explode and become much more politically consequential if (i) an AI-related catastrophe causes loss of life or severe economic damage, (ii) significant AI-driven unemployment emerges, or (iii) the AI sector triggers a market crash, all of which seem plausible.
