Exclusive: Did Kent Police ignore Dover blockade 999 call?
Tonight we can reveal the story that undermines the public statement of Kent Police. Residents of Preston-next-Wingham, a tiny village of just 921 people, raised the alarm after hundreds of men dressed in black took over their roads, gardens and driveways to park their cars on Friday. 🧵

Quite disappointed that, after almost two months, Lady Diana Brittan and I are still waiting to hear whether Sir Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the @metpoliceuk, is prepared to meet us.
On 30 June, we wrote requesting a meeting to discuss the implementation of Sir Richard Henriques’s recommendations following Operation Midland.
Nearly ten years have passed since Sir Richard’s review. Those recommendations were intended to ensure that the serious failings identified during Operation Midland could not be repeated.
We previously sought a meeting in November 2022 but were told it would not be appropriate while misconduct proceedings involving former Assistant Commissioner Steve Rodhouse remained ongoing - a barrier which no longer exists.
Our request was acknowledged and we were told it was being considered. Having received no substantive response, we wrote again on 19 August seeking an update.
We are still waiting.
This is not an unreasonable request. Lady Brittan and I want to understand how Sir Richard’s recommendations have been implemented and embedded in Metropolitan Police policy and training.
After everything that happened during Operation Midland, openness and accountability should not be difficult to secure.
A meeting would be an opportunity for the Metropolitan Police to demonstrate that the lessons of Operation Midland have genuinely been learned.
We await Sir Mark’s response.
