Sounds like Twitter’s going to provide us with an object lesson in Rasmussen’s safety model. If you’re cutting costs and people are burning out, the system gets pushed towards the safety boundary. Outages coming?
Here’s a doodle of Jens Rasmussen’s dynamic safety model. * Bankrupt - boundary to economic failure * Burnout - boundary to unacceptable workload * BOOM! - boundary of fundamentally acceptable performance

Hi friends! I'm looking for a new role. I'm especially interested in hearing from organizations that want to learn meaningful lessons from incidents. Checkout sysadvent.blogspot.com/2021/… let me know if you think we're a match!

It’s also a great way to burn those folks out while accidentally bonding them together. Then, because they care about each other, they show up to incidents they’re not oncall for to cover gaps in process and staffing, quite literally obscuring broken systems with friendship.

Why do we see such psychological resistance to removing non-actionable alerts? We see it over and over again.

During an incident, we must make high-consequence decisions under time pressure, partial information, and uncertainty. The better incident write-ups document these challenges.

Reliability is about meeting expectations. Resilience is about outcomes, and getting there even when the expected methods don’t work.

🗳Hey Minneapolis frens, remember there's a primary on Tuesday with early voting until then. If you want to see @IlhanMN on your ballot this fall, you need to vote for her now. And our useless mayor endorsed her entirely clown-shoes challenger. Read more: naomikritzer.com/2022/07/23/…
