It’s a busy day for Dad’s Taxis today, with Xander on a refereeing course. I’m having a break in what in train driving parlance would be called a Double Lincoln!
5to4 song today on @Hulls107FM is for the “world’s worst guard dog” which brought a toy to an intruder. Song ideas, please?
40 years after they played in Hull with The Housemartins, The Proclaimers were back in Hull last night and what a great night it was. I might have had something in my eye during Sunshine on Leith! Amelia Coburn, as support, was very good - lovely voice.
A fine station (big birthday next year then). For me, it’s the gateway to travelling home and there’s always something special about going through Gasworks and Copenhagen Tunnels, knowing you’re on your way home.
#OnThisDay 174 years ago King's Cross station was opened by the Great Northern Railway. The facade of Lewis Cubitt's magnificent pair of trainsheds was gradually hidden over the years before being unmasked in 2012. In 2019 an IC125 and Class 91 DVT flank an arriving Azuma.
It’s actually St Pancras International which is on the shortlist, not King’s Cross and certainly not King’s Cross St Pancras, which is an underground station.
Two London stations have reached the top 20 in the shortlist for ‘the world cup of stations’ - Kings Cross St Pancras and South Tottenham.
The annual World Cup of Stations competition, which launched in 2019, regularly awards stations in the country for their impact on the railway system. This year's awards celebrate stations that 'created connections that matter,' and this year South Tottenham station has made the list. Public voting runs from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 October. The winner will be announced shortly after.
It looks like I’ll have to wait until the cat wakes up before I can read the latest issue of @RAIL (it’s just as well I know what’s in it!)

Hello #rail Twitter. I'm writing a long form feature on destination boards on UK trains. I'd love to see your images of the good and bad, which I can put to the ToCs and manufacturers. Post in the replies or follow and DM.
It would be easier for me to get into the MoD system and find the location of the UK’s nuclear deterrent submarine than it is to Iogon to the FA online learning website for youngsters.
We have kittens which we recently rescued. They haven’t quite understood the no cats on the table rule yet. This is Bella.
5to4 song today @Hulls107FM is for the story from BBC News about the last solitary car left in a multi-storey car park which is due to be demolished. Song ideas, please?

I am genuinely sad about what’s happening at the BBC. I worked there (in chunks) for nearly a decade and left three and a half years ago. It’s not the same place I left and the challenges are really nuanced (I know nuance is tough on X but it’s important)🧵

This is a thread I was sent via the NUJ but I want to share. Please retweet:
At the end of last year, the BBC asked Ofcom to change its Operating Licence for Local Radio, so that it could "do more local programming when more people are listening". What happened next? A thread../1
